2016–17 Central Michigan Chippewas Women's Basketball Team
The 2016–17 Central Michigan Chippewas women's basketball team represented Central Michigan University during the 2016–17 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. The Chippewas, led by tenth-year head coach Sue Guevara, played their home games at McGuirk Arena as members of the West Division of the Mid-American Conference (MAC). They finished the season 23–9 overall, 15–3 during MAC play, to finish in first place, and win the MAC West Division, and MAC regular season championships. As the No. 1 seed in the MAC tournament, they were upset by No. 8 seed Western Michigan in the quarterfinals. Sue Guevara
Susan Marie Guevara (born July 8, 1954) is the former head women's basketball coach at Central Michigan University. She previously served as the head women's basketball coach at the University of Michigan from 1996 to 2003. Sue announced her retirement from CMU on July 12, 2019. Coaching career Guevara began her coaching career as an assistant at Saginaw Valley State in 1979. After five seasons, she became a graduate assistant at Ohio State in 1984, become becoming an assistant coach at Ball State in 1985. Guevara spent a decade as an assistant coach at Michigan State under Karen Langeland, including as associate head coach in the 1995–96 season. In 1996, Guevara became a head coach for the first time at Michigan. Inheriting a program whose winning percentage in the past four years was under .200, Guevara led Michigan to four consecutive postseason tournament berths, which had never occurred in program history. Mount Pleasant is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan. Located in Central Michigan, the city is the county seat of Isabella County. The population was 21,688 as of the 2020 United States census. It is surrounded by Union Township but is politically independent. The 2016–17 Illinois Fighting Illini women's basketball team represented University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign during the 2016–17 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. The 2016–17 Saint Joseph's Hawks women's basketball team will represent the Saint Joseph's University during the 2016–17 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. Mackey Arena is located in West Lafayette, Indiana. Part of the Purdue University campus, it is home to the university's basketball teams, and occasionally hosts home games for the volleyball and wrestling teams. The Robert A. Mott Athletics Center (formerly Mott Gym) is a 3,032-seat, indoor multi-purpose arena on the campus of California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, California.
