Radio Broadcasting
Radio broadcasting is transmission of audio (sound), sometimes with related metadata, by radio waves to radio receivers belonging to a public audience. In terrestrial radio broadcasting the radio waves are broadcast by a land-based radio station, while in satellite radio the radio waves are broadcast by a satellite in Earth orbit. To receive the content the listener must have a broadcast radio receiver (''radio''). Stations are often affiliated with a radio network which provides content in a common radio format, either in broadcast syndication or simulcast or both. KDFD (760 AM) is a commercial radio station licensed to Thornton, Colorado, and serving the Denver-Boulder metropolitan area. Owned by iHeartMedia, it broadcasts a conservative talk radio format. Its studios and offices are in Southeast Denver, while the transmitter site is off Colorado Boulevard (County Road 13) in Brighton. WFWI
WFWI is an FM radio station located in Fort Wayne, Indiana with a classic hits format. The station operates on the FM radio frequency of 92.3 MHz. The station's main competitor is WLDE. History WFWI began broadcasting in March 1993 with an adult contemporary format under the ownership of Russ Oasis and Steve Avellone, with Tony Coles as the first program director. In early 1994, Oasis and Coles then changed the format to 1970s hits; shortly after, Coles left Fort Wayne for New York's WLTW and production director Keith Harris took over as WFWI's program director. Under Harris's tenure, the format was shifted to classic hits. On January 6, 1995, the Bob & Tom Show became the station's morning show. In 1997, Federated Media purchased WFWI from Edgewater Radio. Mainstream Rock
Mainstream rock (also known as heritage rock) is a radio format used by many commercial radio stations in the United States and Canada. Format background Mainstream rock stations represent the middle ground between classic rock and active rock on the programming spectrum, in that they play more classic rock songs from the 1970s and 1980s and fewer songs from emerging acts than active rock stations, and only rarely play songs on the softer edge of the classic rock format. They program a balanced airplay of tracks found on active rock and classic rock playlists, but the music playlist tends to focus on charting hard rock music from the 1970s through the 2000s. Jack FM is a radio network brand, licensed by Sparknet Communications, with the exception of the European Union where it is licensed by Oxis Media. It plays an adult hits radio format, format, in most cases not using disc jockey, DJs. Format characteristics Stations using the "Jack" name are strictly licensed by SparkNet Communications. KEPN
KEPN (1600 AM) is a commercial radio station licensed to Lakewood, Colorado, and serving the Denver metropolitan area. It is owned by Salt Lake City–based Bonneville International with studios and located in Greenwood Village, and the transmitter is in Lakewood. History Early years On January 8, 1955, the station signed on as KLAK. It was originally on AM 1580 and was a daytimer transmitting 250 watts, required to be off the air at night. KLAK was owned by the Lakewood Broadcasting Service Company and played country music. In 1957, the station moved to AM 1600 and increased power to 1,000 watts, allowing the station to broadcast around the clock. In 1961, KLAK increased power again to 5,000 watts. Owned and operated by Salt Lake City–based Bonneville International, KKFN airs a sports radio format. The station is licensed to Longmont, Colorado.
