2016 Richmond Kickers Season
The 2016 Richmond Kickers season was the club's twenty-fourth season of existence. It is also the Kickers' ninth-consecutive year in the third-tier of American soccer, playing in the United Soccer League for their fifth season. The Kickers finished the season ranked seventh in the Eastern Conference, and earned a berth into the 2016 USL Playoffs. Richmond lost in their first round match-up to Louisville City. Richmond Kickers
Richmond Kickers is an American professional soccer club based in Richmond, Virginia. The Kickers compete as a member of USL League One (USL-1). The club was established in 1993, and began play that same year as a United States Interregional Soccer League (now USL League Two) expansion team, which at the time, was the fourth tier of soccer in the United States. The club's majority owner is 22 Holdings, LLC, and its minority owners are Richmond Kickers Youth Soccer Club and the Ukrop family, a prominent family from the Greater Richmond Region who founded the Ukrop's grocery chain. The company serves as the club's primary uniform sponsor. Darren Sawatzky has been the club's manager since 2019, taking over for the late-David Bulow. The club's Director of Soccer, Leigh Cowlishaw, coached the team from 2000 until 2018, making him one of the longest tenured professional soccer coaches in American soccer history. Gerson Dos Santos
Gerson Pereira dos Santos Filho (born June 15, 1982) is a Brazilian retired footballer. Career College and amateur Dos Santos played for several youth clubs in his native Brazil, including C.A. Juventus and Foz Cataratas E.C., before moving to the United States in 2005 to attend and play college soccer at Virginia Commonwealth University. He made 45 appearances with the VCU Rams over three seasons, scoring 10 goals and 9 assists, earning All-CAA First Team honors in his sophomore season, and being named co-Player of the Year in his senior year. Dos Santos also spent the 2007 season with Richmond Kickers Future in the USL Premier Development League. VCU Rams Men's Soccer
The VCU Rams men's soccer team is an intercollegiate varsity sports team of Virginia Commonwealth University, an NCAA Division I member school located in the state's capital of Richmond. The team is a member of the Atlantic 10 Conference. Since their foundation, the team has won three conference championships, all of which came in the Colonial Athletic Association, and four regular season titles. The Rams have qualified for seven NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championships, most recently coming in 2012. Most of the team's success has come within the last 15 seasons, as they first reached the NCAA Tournament in 1997. The program's best performance in the tournament came in 2004, when the Rams reached the quarterfinals of the tournament, knocking off the top seed, Wake Forest, in the process. Paul Michael Black (born 18 January 1990) is an English footballer. Career Oldham Athletic Growing up to have the dream to become a footballer, Black was a product of the Manchester City FC's youth system before joining Oldham Athletic and becoming a regular in the starting eleven during the 2006–07 season, becoming a captain for the youth squad. WakeMed Soccer Park is a major soccer complex in Cary, North Carolina, United States. It consists of a purpose-built, soccer-specific main stadium called Sahlen's Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park, two lighted practice fields, and four additional fields. Sahlen's Stadium and the two lighted fields (2 & 3) are all FIFA international regulation size (). Sahlen's Stadium seats 10,000, while Field 2 also has 1,000 permanent bleacher seats. The Virginia Cavaliers men's soccer team represent the University of Virginia in all NCAA Division I men's soccer competitions. The Virginia Cavaliers are a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference.
