400 Metres
The 400 metres, or 400-meter dash, is a sprint event in track and field competitions. It has been featured in the athletics (sport), athletics programme at the Summer Olympics since 1896 for men and since 1964 for women. On a standard outdoor running track, it is one lap around the track. Runners start in staggered positions and race in separate lanes for the entire course. In many countries, athletes previously competed in the 440-yard dash (402.336 m)—which is a quarter of a mile and was referred to as the 'quarter-mile'—instead of the 400 m (437.445 yards), though this distance is now obsolete. Like other sprint disciplines, the 400 m involves the use of starting blocks. Henry Manni
Henry Manni (born 18 June 1992) is a Finnish athlete and paracanoeist who has competed and medaled in both fields at World Championship level. In Paracanoeing he won a bronze medal in the K-1 200 m TA event at the 2010 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships in Poznań. Manni later switched to athletics as a wheelchair sprinter in the T34 classification. In 2013 he won a bronze in the World Championships in the 200m event, following this with four golds in the 2014 European Championships and three further World championship medals in 2015. Personal history Manni was born in Lahti, Finland in 1992. He was born with paraparesis which saw his ability to walk unaided deteriorated from a young age. He obtained a degree in physical education from Pajulahti Sports Institute in Nastola. His younger brother Tuomas is also a para-athlete, competing in triathlon events. T43 is a disability sport classification for disability athletics (track and jump events only), applying to athletes with "Double below knee amputation (or combined arm/leg amputation) or similar disability." It includes ISOD classified athletes from the A4 and A9 classes. Definition This classification is for disability athletics in the track and jump events. This classification is one of several classifications for athletes with ambulant related disabilities. Similar classifications are T40, T42, T44, T45 and T46. The International Paralympic Committee defined this class in 2011 as: "Double below knee amputees and other athletes with impairments that are comparable to a double below knee amputation." T44 is a disability sport classification for disability athletics, applying to "Single below knee amputation or an athlete who can walk with moderately reduced function in one or both legs." It includes ISOD A4 and A9 classes. Definition This classification is for disability athletics. This classification is one of several classifications for athletes with ambulant related disabilities. Andrey Vdovin (russian: Андрей Вдовин, also transliterated Andrei Vdovin, born 26 February 1994) is a Russian parasport athlete competing mainly in category T37 sprint and middle-distance events. A triple gold medal winner at the 2013 IPC Athletics World Championships, Vdovin also set three world records in his class between 2013 and 2014. T38 (classification)
T38 and CP8 are disability sport classification for disability athletics intended for people with cerebral palsy. It includes people who have coordination impairments such as hypertonia, ataxia and athetosis. Runners in this class may appear to have a slight limp when they are running but otherwise have a stride similar to able-bodied runners. Events for this class include 100 meters, 400 meters, 1,500 meters, and the long jump. Sport This classification is for disability athletics. This classification is one of seven classifications for athletes with cerebral palsy. Similar classifications are T32, T33, T34, T35, T36, T37 and T38. Evgeny Shvetsov (''born 28 February 1988'') is a Paralympian track and field athlete from Russia competing mainly in category T36 sprint and middle-distance events. A triple gold medal winner at the 2012 Summer Paralympics, Shvetcov set three world records in his class between 2012 and 2013. Career history 2012 London Shvetcov came to world attention as an athlete at the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London where he entered the 100m and 400m sprints and the 800m middle-distance race.
