2016 Horizon League Men's Basketball Tournament
The 2016 Horizon League men's basketball tournament (also known as Motor City Madness) was the conference tournament for the 2015–16 season of the Horizon League. It was played from March 5 through March 8, 2016 at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit. The winner of the tournament received the Horizon League's automatic berth into the 2016 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament, 2016 NCAA men's basketball tournament. This was the first Horizon League Tournament since 2002 Horizon League men's basketball tournament, 2002 to be played at a predetermined neutral site. Seeds All 10 teams in the conference participated in the tournament. The top two teams received double byes to the semifinals. Joe Louis Arena
Joe Louis Arena was an arena in Downtown Detroit. Completed in 1979 at a cost of US$57 million as a replacement for Olympia Stadium, it sat adjacent to Cobo Center on the bank of the Detroit River and was accessible by the Joe Louis Arena station on the Detroit People Mover. The venue was named after former heavyweight champion boxer Joe Louis, who grew up in Detroit. It was the home of the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League and the second oldest NHL venue after Madison Square Garden until the start of the 2017–18 NHL season. Joe Louis Arena was owned by the city of Detroit, and operated by Olympia Entertainment, a subsidiary of team owner Ilitch Holdings. 2015–16 Milwaukee Panthers Men's Basketball Team
The 2015–16 Milwaukee Panthers men's basketball team represented the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee during the 2015–16 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Panthers, led by eleventh year head coach Rob Jeter, played their home games at the UW–Milwaukee Panther Arena and the Klotsche Center and were members of the Horizon League. They finished the season 20–13, 10–8 in Horizon League play to finish in fifth place. They defeated Northern Kentucky in the first round of the Horizon League tournament to advance to the second round where they lost to Green Bay. Horizon League Men's Basketball Tournament
The Horizon League men's basketball conference tournament is held annually at the end of the men's college basketball regular season. The tournament has been played each year since 1980. The winner of the tournament is designated the Horizon League Tournament Champion and receives the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA men's basketball tournament. The finals of the tournament are typically among the first held before the field for the NCAA tournament is announced. History and tournament format Through 2002, the entire tournament was hosted at a single venue. From 2003 through 2015, all first-round matches were played at the home court of the higher-seeded team involved.
