2016 European Women's Handball Championship Qualification
This article describes the qualification for the 2016 European Women's Handball Championship. Qualification system The draw was held in Vienna, Austria on 24 March 2015 at 11:30 local time. Sweden as host nation was directly qualified. 32 teams had registered for participation and compete for 14 places at the final tournament in 2 distinct Qualification Phases. The group winners of phase 1 advanced to phase 2. The 28 teams were divided into seven groups of four teams. The top two teams qualified for the main tournament as well as the best-ranked third placed team, where the results against the last-placed team were revoked. Qualification Phase 1 The groups played in a tournament format from 12–14 June 2015. The group winners advanced to the second phase. 2016 European Women's Handball Championship
The 2016 European Women's Handball Championship was held in Sweden from 4 to 18 December 2016. It was the second time that Sweden hosts the tournament, after it also hosted the 2006 European Women's Handball Championship. Sweden was awarded the championship on the European Handball Federation, EHF Congress in Monaco on 23 June 2012. Norway won their seventh title after a 30–29 victory over the Netherlands. France captured the bronze medal, after a 25–22 victory over Denmark. Venues Qualification Qualified teams Note: Bold indicates champion for that year. ''Italic'' indicates host for that year. Draw The draw was held on 10 June 2016 at 13:00 local time at the Lisebergshallen in Gothenburg, Sweden. Nora Mørk
Nora Mørk (born 5 April 1991) is a Norwegian handball player for Team Esbjerg and the Norway women's national handball team, Norwegian national team. She made her debut on the Norwegian national team on 21 September 2010. Before joining Team Esbjerg, she played for Bækkelaget, Aalborg DH, Njård, Larvik, Győr, CSM București and Vipers Kristiansand. Laima Bernatavičiūtė
Laima Bernatavičiūtė (born 12 April 1985) is a former Lithuanian people, Lithuanian team handball, handballer who was member of the Lithuania women's national handball team, Lithuanian national team. She signed to Egle Vilnius at the age of 15 and spent seven years with the Lithuanian record champions. In 2007, she switched to Hungarian side Alcoa FKC, where she joined fellow handball player Sonata Vijūnaitė. After three years, with 72 league matches under her belt, in which she scored 320 goals, she moved to CB Mar Alicante, with them she has won the silver medal of the Women's EHF Cup Winners' Cup, EHF Cup Winners' Cup in 2011. Cristina Neagu
Cristina Georgiana Neagu (; born 26 August 1988) is a Romanian professional handballer who plays as a left back for CSM București and the Romanian national team. Often considered the best player in the world and rated by many in the sport as the greatest of all time, Neagu is the only female handball player in history to win four IHF World Player of the Year awards (in 2010, 2015, 2016 and 2018). Trondheim Spektrum
Trondheim Spektrum (formerly Nidarøhallen) is a multi-purpose indoor arena in Trondheim, Norway. It is located on the peninsula of Øya next to the Nidelven river. It is the home arena for women's handball team Byåsen HE. A new arena was completed in 2019 and replaced the largest multi-use hall in the same location. The eight former halls originally went by the name Nidarøhallen. Heidi Løke
Heidi Løke (born 12 December 1982) is a Norwegian handball player for Larvik HK and the Norwegian national team. Among her achievements as club player are national championships, a silver medal in the EHF Women's Cup Winners' Cup, and winner of the EHF Women's Champions League several times. Career Club career Løke was born in Tønsberg and grew up in Sandefjord where she started to play handball at the age of ten. She played for Runar, Larvik, Gjerpen and Aalborg DH before she again played for Larvik between 2008 and 2011. She was top scorer in the Norwegian League in the 2008/2009 and 2009/2010 seasons, and was selected Player of the Year in the league both in 2008/2009 and in 2009/2010.
