2016 European Touring Car Cup Season
The 2016 FIA European Touring Car Cup was the twelfth running of the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile, FIA European Touring Car Cup. It consisted of six events in France (twice), Slovakia, Germany, Portugal and Italy. The championship was split into two categories: Super 2000 (including TC2 Turbo, TC2 and TCR International Series, TCN-2 machinery) and Super 1600. Teams and drivers The races at the Nürburgring had both WTCC and ETCC competitors. ETCC competitors entered with their usual car numbers, but with 100 added up to it. Race calendar and results The first four rounds were supporting the 2016 World Touring Car Championship, World Touring Car Championship, whereas the final two rounds were jointly with the FFSA GT Tour. 2016 World Touring Car Championship
The 2016 World Touring Car Championship was the thirteenth season of the FIA World Touring Car Championship, and the twelfth since the series was revived in 2005. In 2016 a new manufacturer Polestar (with Volvo S60) entered while Citroën reduced the number of official entries to two, and announced their retirement in 2017. A new team time trial format was introduced for manufacturers, titled ''Manufacturers Against the Clock (MAC3)'', consisting in three cars per manufacturer completing two laps at the same time (only one lap at the Nürburgring) against the clock, whereby the total time of the last car determines the result. The cars must finish in a 15 seconds gap. Automotodróm Slovakia Ring is a motor racing circuit in Orechová Potôň, Dunajská Streda District in Slovakia, approximately away from Bratislava Airport. It was built between 2008 and 2009. Description New Zealand race car driver Matt Halliday suggested that the rear engine Porsches struggled with Slovakia Ring's long radius corners with much less front aerodynamics than the other cars. A major feature of the circuit is a prominent hump on one of the straights that causes some cars to fly with the front wheels off the ground.
