2016 European Road Championships – Women's Time Trial
The Women's time trial at the 2016 European Road Championships took place on 15 September. It was the first time that an elite time trial event for women was contested at the European Road Championships. The start of the time trial was in Josselin, with the finish at the top of the Côte de Cadoudal, in Plumelec; in total, the course was in length. The event also saw riders under the age of 23 take part, with separated rankings and the UEC European Champion jersey on offer to the fastest rider. In total, 52 riders contested the event. The elite title was won by Dutch rider Ellen van Dijk, completing the course in a time of 36 minutes, 41.07 seconds. Van Dijk finished 18.40 seconds ahead of her compatriot Anna van der Breggen, with Russia's Olga Zabelinskaya completing the podium, a further 4.99 seconds in arrears of van der Breggen. Anna Van Der Breggen
Anna van der Breggen (born 18 April 1990) is a Dutch former professional road bicycle racer, who rode professionally between 2009 and 2021 for Team Flexpoint, , and . She won the gold medal in the women's road race at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, and has won the Giro d'Italia Femminile on four occasions. In 2018 and 2020, she won the women's road race at the UCI Road World Championships. Considered one of the most versatile riders of her generation, van der Breggen excelled in both the one-day classics and stage races, particularly when run on a hilly terrain. Olena Kozakova Pavlukhina (born 1 March 1989) is a Ukrainian-born Azerbaijani road and track cyclist. Olga Shekel ( uk, Ольга Шекель; born 28 May 1994) is a Ukrainian road racing cyclist, who currently rides for UCI Women's Continental Team . Katrin Garfoot
Katrin Garfoot (born 8 October 1981) is a German-born Australian former cyclist who won a bronze medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in the road time trial. She started cycle racing in 2011, three years after moving to Australia, having previously competed in athletics up to junior level. In addition to this, Katrin was a teacher at Southport State High School on the Gold Coast. At the 2016 UCI Road World Championships she won the bronze medal in the women's time trial, 8 seconds behind the winner Amber Neben.
