100 Metres Hurdles
The 100 metres hurdles, or 100-meter hurdles, is a track and field event run mainly by women (the male counterpart is the 110 metres hurdles). For the race, ten Hurdling, hurdles of a height of are placed along a straight course of . The first hurdle is placed after a run-up of 13 metres from the starting line. The next 9 hurdles are set at a distance of 8.5 metres from each other, and the home stretch from the last hurdle to the finish line is 10.5 metres long. The hurdles are set up so that they will fall over if bumped into by the runner, but weighted so this is disadvantageous. Fallen hurdles do not count against runners provided that they do not run into them on purpose. Like the 100 metres sprint, the 100 m hurdles begins with athletes in starting blocks. Reetta Sofi Kaarina Hurske (born 15 May 1995) is a Finnish athlete specialising in the sprint hurdles. She won the gold medal in the 60 metres hurdles at the 2023 European Indoor Championships, winning Finland its first ever medal in this event, after finishing fourth at the 2019 edition. Hurske placed second in the 100 metres hurdles at the 2019 Universiade. She represented her country at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics as well as the 2019 and 2022 World Athletics Championships. She is the Finnish indoor record holder for the 60 m hurdles, and won two individual national titles. Hurske improved the Finnish record in the 60 m hurdles five times in 2023 (7.90, 7.88, 7.86, 7.81 and 7.79 seconds). Isabelle Pedersen (born January 27, 1992) is a Norwegian hurdling athlete. At the 2010 World Junior Championships, she won a gold medal in the 100 metres hurdles. Career At the 2009 World Youth Championships, Pedersen became the world champion in the 100 metres hurdles (76.2 cm) in a time of 13.23. In the semifinals, she ran a 13.20 which was a European record for U18 class until 2011. Susanna Elisabeth "Sanna" Kallur (; born 16 February 1981) is a Swedish former athlete competing mainly in sprint hurdles.
