Shot Put
The shot put is a track and field event involving "putting" (throwing) a heavy spherical ball—the ''shot''—as far as possible. The shot put competition for men has been a part of the modern Olympics since their revival in 1896, and women's competition began in 1948. History Homer mentions competitions of rock throwing by soldiers during the Siege of Troy but there is no record of any dead weights being thrown in Greek competitions. The first evidence for stone- or weight-throwing events were in the Scottish Highlands, and date back to approximately the first century. In the 16th century King Henry VIII was noted for his prowess in court competitions of weight and hammer throwing. The first events resembling the modern shot put likely occurred in the Middle Ages when soldiers held competitions in which they hurled cannonballs. Joe Kovacs
Joseph Mathias Kovacs (born June 28, 1989) is an American track and field athlete who competes in the shot put and has a personal record of 23.23 meters outdoors and 22.05 meters indoors. He won gold medals at the 2015 and 2019 World Championships. He won silver medals at the 2017 World Championships, 2016 and 2020 Summer Olympics. His personal best of 23.23 metres makes him the second best competitor all-time in the shot put event. Since college he was coached by Art Venegas, widely regarded as one of the best coaches in the world and the only coach to have athletes reach 73' with both the glide and rotational techniques in the shot put. Stipe Žunić (born 13 December 1990) is a Croatian athlete specialising in the shot put, having switched from the javelin throw in 2013. He finished third at the 2017 World Championships in Athletics, fourth at the 2014 European Athletics Championships and seventh at the 2015 European Athletics Indoor Championships. Tsanko Rosenov Arnaudov ( bg, Цанко Росенов Арнаудов; born 14 March 1992) is a Portuguese athlete who represents S.L. Benfica at club level. He holds the Portuguese record in men's shot put with 21.56 m. Career Arnaudov was born in Bulgaria in 1992. Son of Bulgarian emigrants in Portugal since the age of 12, he acquired Portuguese citizenship on 2 July 2010 (aged 18). Michał Haratyk (born 10 April 1992 in Cieszyn) is a Polish athlete specialising in the shot put. Career He made his international debut at the 2016 World Indoor Championships where he finished distant fourteenth despite having the third-farthest throw that indoor season. David Storl
David Storl (born 27 July 1990) is a German track and field athlete who specialises in the shot put. He was successful on the youth and junior athletics circuit, winning gold medals at the World Youth Championships and World Junior Championships. Storl won his first senior medal, a silver, at the 2011 European Athletics Indoor Championships. He held the world junior record of 22.73 m with the 6 kg shot.
