2016 European Athletics Championships
The 2016 European Athletics Championships was held in Amsterdam, Netherlands, between 6 and 10 July 2016. It was the first time the Netherlands hosted the event. Due to 2016 being an Olympic year, there was no racewalking and the marathon competition was replaced by half marathon. The Russian team did not participate due to the suspension of the All-Russia Athletic Federation by the International Association of Athletics Federations. However, Yuliya Stepanova was individually cleared by the IAAF to compete as an independent athlete; she participated in the European championships under the flag of the European Athletic Association. Germany and Great Britain topped the medal table with 16, with Poland won 12 medals. Poland wins and topped the victory column with 6 gold medals (Germany & Great Britain tied with 5). Luke Cutts (born 13 February 1988 in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England) is a British pole vaulter. His personal best of set in 2014 is the British indoor record for the event. His outdoor best of puts him third on the all-time British lists. He represented Great Britain at the World Junior Championships in Athletics in 2006, the European Athletics Junior Championships in 2007, then won a silver medal at the 2009 European Athletics U23 Championships. At his first three senior international championships (2009 World Championships in Athletics, 2010 Commonwealth Games and 2012 European Athletics Championships) he failed to progress beyond the qualifying round. Piotr Lisek
Piotr Lisek (born 16 August 1992) is a Polish athlete specialising in the pole vault. He won bronze medals at the 2015 and 2019 World Championships and the silver medal at the 2017 World Championships. He is the first Polish vaulter to jump over 6 meters. His personal bests in the event are 6.02 metres outdoors (Monaco 2019) and 6.00 metres indoors (Potsdam 2017). Career Lisek began his career as a high jumper, but later switched to pole vault, having decided he was too short for his original event. He was coached by Vyacheslav Kalinichenko, who also trained Monika Pyrek, one of the most successful Polish female pole vaulters. At the 2012 Polish Championships, he tested positive for an illegal substance, methylhexanamine, and was banned for six months. The athlete stated that he took the substance unknowingly in an energy drink and even listed it with the supplements he was using before the anti-doping control, which contributed to the reduced period of suspension.

After a strong karting career, he drove in Spanish Formula Three, before moving to the World Series by Nissan in 2004.
