2016 Daventry District Council Election
The 2016 Daventry District Council election took place on 5 May 2016 to elect members of Daventry District Council in England. This was on the same day as other local elections. Only one seat changed hands with Labour taking one seat from the Conservatives leading to the council being made up as follows; 30 Conservative councillors, 3 Labour councillors, 2 UKIP councillors and 1 Liberal Democrat councillor. This was the first year in which the Liberal Democrats, along with the Conservatives and Labour party, stood in all 12 wards. Daventry ( , historically ) is a market town and civil parish in the West Northamptonshire unitary authority in Northamptonshire, England, close to the border with Warwickshire. At the 2021 Census Daventry had a population of 28,123, making it the sixth largest town in Northamptonshire. Geography The town is north-northwest of London via the M1 motorway, west of Northampton, southwest of Rugby, Warwickshire, Rugby. and north-northeast of Banbury. 2016 United Kingdom Local Elections
The 2016 United Kingdom local elections held on Thursday 5 May 2016 were a series of local elections which were held in 124 local councils and also saw 4 mayoral elections in England which also coincided with elections to the Scottish Parliament, the Welsh Assembly, the Northern Ireland Assembly, the London Assembly, the London mayoral election and the England and Wales Police and crime commissioners. By-elections for the Westminster seats of Ogmore and Sheffield Brightside and Hillsborough were also held. These proved to be David Cameron's last local elections as leader of the Conservative Party and Prime Minister as he resigned two months later following the defeat of Remain in the referendum on Britain's continuing membership of the European Union which was held seven weeks later. Ken Ritchie
Dr Kenneth George Hutchison Ritchie (born 8 December 1946) is a British psephology, psephologist and former Labour and Co-operative councillor. He was the chief executive of the Electoral Reform Society from 1997 until 26 June 2010, and a member of the board from 2012 to 2019. Early life and education Kenneth Ritchie was the son of the late William Ritchie and Margaret Morton Ritchie (née Hutchison). He attended George Heriot's School in Edinburgh. Ritchie graduated from the University of Edinburgh with a BSc in mathematics, and then spent 18 months teaching maths in Tanzania with Voluntary Service Overseas during 1968 and 1969. After that, he returned to Britain to work as a systems analyst for Imperial Chemical Industries, where he worked from 1970 to 1973. His African interests led him to complete a PhD on Aston University's Interdisciplinary Higher Degrees Scheme (IHD). Daventry District Council Elections
One third of Daventry District Council in Northamptonshire, England was elected each year, followed by one year when there was an election to Northamptonshire County Council instead. Since the last boundary changes in 1999, 38 councillors were elected from 24 wards. In another boundary review in 2012 the councillors were reduced to 36 councillors across 16 wards. The council was abolished in 2021, with the area becoming part of West Northamptonshire.
