2016 Australian Open
The 2016 Australian Open was a tennis tournament that took place at Melbourne Park between 18 and 31 January 2016. It was the 104th edition of the Australian Open, and the first Grand Slam tournament of the year. The tournament consisted of events for professional players in singles, doubles and mixed doubles play. Junior and wheelchair players competed in singles and doubles tournaments. Novak Djokovic successfully defended the men's singles title and thus won a record-equaling sixth Australian Open title. Serena Williams was the defending champion in the women's singles but failed to defend her title, losing to Angelique Kerber in the final; by winning, Kerber became the first German player of any gender to win a Grand Slam title since Steffi Graf won her last such title at the 1999 French Open. Bjorn Fratangelo
Bjorn Fratangelo ( ; born July 19, 1993) is a professional American tennis player. He won the boys' singles title at the 2011 French Open defeating Dominic Thiem. Fratangelo is only the second American out of three to win the event, following John McEnroe in 1977 and preceding Tommy Paul in 2015. Early life Fratangelo began playing tennis at age three. and is named after tennis champion Björn Borg. His father, Mario, is his coach. Fratangelo attended St. John the Baptist School in Plum, Pennsylvania until the 8th grade when he moved to Naples, Florida for training reasons, and was an online student of Barron Collier High School. Junior career Fratangelo won the boys' singles title at the 2011 French Open, beating Dominic Thiem in the final. The win propelled him to a career high of No. 2 in the junior rankings. Kenny de Schepper (born 29 May 1987) is a French professional tennis player. Career De Schepper was born in Bordeaux, France. His father Éric, originally from Belgium, was a former professional squash player. De Schepper, who is two meters tall, joined the National tennis centre in Poitiers when he was 13, however after a while he stopped playing tennis for two years due to growth injuries. Igor Sijsling (; born 18 August 1987) is a Dutch former professional tennis player. Sijsling reached his career-high ATP singles ranking of World No. 52 on 17 February 2014. His biggest accomplishment is reaching the final of Australian Open Doubles with countryman Robin Haase in 2013, where they lost to the Bryan Brothers. Jared Donaldson (born October 9, 1996) is a former American professional tennis player from Glocester, Rhode Island. Donaldson was the only American to qualify for the inaugural Next Generation ATP Finals at the end of 2017 as the fifth seed. He has won a Challenger title in singles as well as doubles, with both of them having come at the Royal Lahaina Challenger in 2015.
