2015–16 Stony Brook Seawolves Men's Basketball Team
The 2015–16 Stony Brook Seawolves men's basketball team represented Stony Brook University in the 2015–16 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Seawolves were led by the eleventh-year head coach Steve Pikiell and played their home games at Island Federal Credit Union Arena. They were members of the America East Conference. They finished the season 26–7, 14–2 in America East play to win the regular-season championship. They defeated UMBC, Hartford, and Vermont to become champions of the America East tournament and earn the conference's automatic bid goes the NCAA tournament, their first in school history. As a #13 seed, the Seawolves fell to Kentucky in the first round. On March 20, it was announced that head coach Steve Pikiell would leave the school to accept the job as the new head coach for Rutgers. Steve Pikiell
Stephen Christopher Pikiell ( ; born November 21, 1967) is an American college basketball coach and since March 16th, 2016, the head men's basketball coach at Rutgers. Prior to Rutgers, Pikiell was the head coach at Stony Brook for over a decade, leading the Seawolves to their first NCAA Tournament appearance in 2016. In 2021, Pikiell led Rutgers to its first NCAA Tournament appearance in 30 years. Early years and playing career Pikiell was born and raised in Bristol, Connecticut, and was one of nine children and graduated from St. Paul Catholic High School in Bristol in 1986. At the University of Connecticut, Pikiell worked as a point guard, two-year captain and four-year letterwinner for the Huskies from 1987 to 1991. He played in 106 career games and averaged 8.2 points a game as a freshman. 2014–15 Mercer Bears Men's Basketball Team
The 2014–15 Mercer Bears men's basketball team represented Mercer University during the 2014–15 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Bears, led by seventh year head coach Bob Hoffman, played their home games at Hawkins Arena on the university's Macon, Georgia campus and were first year members of the Southern Conference. They finished the season 19–16, 12–6 in SoCon play to finish in third place. They advanced to the semifinals of the SoCon tournament where they lost to Furman. They were invited to the College Basketball Invitational where they defeated Stony Brook in the first round before losing in the quarterfinals to Louisiana–Monroe.
