The 2015–16 season was Sheffield United F.C., Sheffield United's 127th season in their history and their fifth consecutive season in EFL League One, League One. Along with League One, the club also competed in the FA Cup, EFL Cup, League Cup and EFL Trophy, Football League Trophy. The season covers the period from 1 July 2015 to 30 June 2016. Season overview Pre-season Following another failed play-off campaign, manager Nigel Clough was sacked with the club board stating "A change in direction was necessary for the forthcoming season." After having an enquiry about Bradford City A.F.C., Bradford City's Phil Parkinson to succeed Clough, on 2 June Nigel Adkins was installed as Sheffield United's new manager. On 13 July, Diego De Girolamo signed a new two-year contract with the Blades, having initially rejecting a new offer. Nigel Adkins
Nigel Howard Adkins (born 11 March 1965) is an English professional football manager and former footballer and physiotherapist. He was most recently the manager and technical director at Tranmere Rovers. Adkins played as a goalkeeper for Tranmere Rovers and Wigan Athletic. He finished his playing career and began his managerial career at Welsh club Bangor City before joining Scunthorpe United's backroom staff. As the club's physio, Adkins was appointed as caretaker manager before receiving the job permanently. He led the club to the League One title in 2006–07. However, the club were relegated from the Championship the following season but would return the following season after winning the 2009 play-off final. Iain Ross Turner (born 26 January 1984) is a Scottish former professional footballer, who played as a goalkeeper and who works as goalkeeping coach at Tranmere Rovers. He represented the Scotland under-21 team, the Scotland B team and been selected for the full Scotland squad. Turner previously played for Stirling Albion, Barnsley, Everton and several other clubs on loan. Michael Doyle (Irish Footballer)
Michael Paul Doyle (born 8 August 1981) is a former professional footballer who was most recently manager of club Woking. Born in Dublin, Doyle started his career at Celtic before a spell on loan in Denmark playing for AGF Aarhus. He subsequently spent the majority of his career at Coventry City and Sheffield United. Doyle has also been capped once by the Republic of Ireland. Club career Early career Doyle began his career as a trainee at Celtic turning full professional for them in August 1998. He and fellow Celtic teammate Liam Miller had a spell on loan in the Danish Premier League at club AGF Aarhus, with Doyle playing 22 League games and scoring four goals for the Danish side. Benjamin James Davies (born 27 May 1981) is an English football coach and former professional player who is a first team coach at club Grimsby Town. As a player he was as a right back and midfielder playing between 2000 and 2021. Born in Birmingham, he began his career with Walsall before dropping into the Football Conference, playing for Kidderminster Harriers and Chester City. Alfreton ( or locally ) is a town and civil parish in the Amber Valley district of Derbyshire, England. The town was formerly a Norman Manor and later an Urban District. The population of the Alfreton parish was 8,799 at the 2021 Census. The villages of Ironville, Riddings, Somercotes and Swanwick were historically part of the Manor and Urban District, and the population including these was 24,476 in 2001. Billy Louis Sharp (born 5 February 1986) is an English professional footballer who plays as a striker for club Doncaster Rovers.
