2015–16 Saint Mary's Gaels Men's Basketball Team
The 2015–16 Saint Mary's Gaels men's basketball team represented Saint Mary's College of California during the 2015–16 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. This was head coach Randy Bennett's fifteenth season at Saint Mary's. The Gaels competed in the West Coast Conference and played their home games at the McKeon Pavilion. They finished the season 29–6, 15–3 in WCC play to win a share of the WCC regular season conference championship. They defeated Loyola Marymount and Pepperdine to advance to the championship game of the WCC tournament where they lost to Gonzaga. As a regular season conference champion, and #1 seed in their conference tournament, who failed to win their conference tournament, they received an automatic bid to the National Invitation Tournament. Randy Bennett
Randall William Bennett (born June 9, 1962) is an American college basketball coach and the current head men's basketball coach at Saint Mary's College of California. He has led the team nine NCAA tournament appearances, regular season conference championships in 2011, 2012, 2016, 2023, 2024, and 2025 as well as WCC tournament championships in 2010, 2012, 2019, and 2024. Early life and college playing career Born in Mesa, Arizona, Bennett graduated from Westwood High School in Mesa and began his collegiate career at Mesa Community College, playing under his father Tom from 1980 to 1982. Bennett then transferred to the University of California, San Diego (UC San Diego). As a senior in the 1984–85 season, Bennett averaged 7.0 points and 1.5 rebounds. Joe Coleman (basketball)
Joe Coleman (born June 16, 1993) is an American basketball player. He was named 2011 Minnesota Mr. Basketball and was a Top 100 ESPN Recruit. He was also a contestant on ''The Bachelorette''. High school career Coleman is a 2011 graduate from Hopkins High School. He led the school to three state championships in 2009, 2010, and 2011. In 2011, he was named Captain of the team and had a record of 32–1. After leading the team to a state championship he was then named Minnesota Mr. Basketball. Brad Ernest Waldow (born December 30, 1991) is an American basketball player who last played for the Bashkimi of the Kosovo Superleague. He competed in college for the St. Mary's Gaels. Early life Waldow began playing competitive basketball in eighth grade. In his sophomore season at Ponderosa High School, he slimmed down and had a growth spurt that saw him increase his height from 6'2 to 6'7. Waldow averaged 26 points and 11 rebounds per game as a senior. Despite this, he was lightly recruited and one of the few collegiate offers came from St. Mary's. 2015 National Invitation Tournament
The 2015 National Invitation Tournament was a single-elimination tournament of 32 NCAA Division I teams that were not selected to participate in the 2015 NCAA tournament. The annual tournament is being played on campus sites for the first three rounds, with the Final Four and championship game being held at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The tournament began on Tuesday, March 17 and ended on Thursday, April 2.
