2015–16 Pacific Tigers Men's Basketball Team
The 2015–16 Pacific Tigers men's basketball team represented the University of the Pacific during the 2015–16 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. They played their home games at the Alex G. Spanos Center and were members of the West Coast Conference. The Tigers were led by third-year head coach Ron Verlin. On December 12, 2015, Verlin was suspended indefinitely amid an NCAA investigation. Assistant coach Mike Burns was named the interim head coach for the remainder of the season. The Tigers also self-imposed a postseason ban for 2016 which included the WCC Tournament. They finished the season 8–20, 6–12 in WCC play to finish in a three-way tie for seventh place On March 3, 2016, it was announced that Ron Verlin was no longer employed by the university. Mike Burns (basketball)
Michael Edward Burns (born May 14, 1962) is an American assistant men's college basketball coach at Boise State. Early life and education Born in Tacoma, Washington, Burns graduated from Tyee High School in SeaTac in 1980. Burns first attended Idaho State University after high school. He later returned to the Seattle area to work as a concert promoter and worked with several grunge bands. Coaching career Burns became an assistant coach at Highline College, a junior college in Des Moines, Washington. After three years at Highline, Burns returned to Tyee High School as co-head coach for the 1995–96 season. From 1996 to 1999, Burns worked as an assistant coach at Central Washington University. The Pacific Tigers represent the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California, in intercollegiate athletics. The Tigers compete in NCAA Division I, and are currently in their second stint as members of the West Coast Conference (WCC). Conference history Pacific was one of the founding members of the West Coast Conference (originally the California Basketball Association and later the West Coast Athletic Conference) in 1952, but became a charter member of the Pacific Coast Athletic Association, now known as the Big West Conference, for football only in 1969 and moved the rest of its sports to the PCAA in 1971. In the sport of basketball, there are five players play per team, each assigned to positions. Historically, these players have been assigned, to positions defined by the role they play on the court, from a strategic point of view. The three main positions are guard, forward, and center, with the standard team featuring two guards, two forwards, and a center. The Long Beach State Beach men's basketball team represents California State University, Long Beach in Long Beach, California. The school's team competes in the Big West Conference. The team last played in the NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament in 2012. The Beach are currently coached by Dan Monson. Long Beach State officially changed their nickname with the NCAA to "Beach" from "49ers" prior to the 2019–20 season.
