2015–16 Oakland Golden Grizzlies Men's Basketball Team
The 2015–16 Oakland Golden Grizzlies men's basketball team represented Oakland University during the 2015–16 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Golden Grizzlies were led by 32nd year head coach Greg Kampe and played their home games at the Athletics Center O'rena. They finished the season 23–12, 13–5 in Horizon League play to finish in a tie for second place. They lost in the semifinals of the Horizon League tournament to Wright State. They were invited to the inaugural Vegas 16 where they defeated Towson and East Tennessee State to advance to the championship game where they lost to Old Dominion. Preseason The Oakland team traveled to Spain for a week at the end of August. During the trip, they defeated each of the three European professional teams they faced. Greg Kampe
Greg Charles Kampe (born December 9, 1955) is an American college basketball coach and the current head men's basketball coach at Oakland University. He guided the Golden Grizzlies to their first NCAA Division I tournament and tournament win in 2005. Through the 2016–17 season, he has compiled a record in 33 seasons at Oakland University. Kampe, a member of the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame, is one of nine Division I basketball coaches who have been at the same school for at least 25 seasons. Kampe is the second longest-tenured Division I head coach, behind Jim Boeheim. Kampe won The Summit League's coach of the year four times, the most recent being in 2010 and 2011. Kampe won his 500th career game January 26, 2013. On May 30, 2017, Kampe was one of eight new inductees announced for the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in Detroit. Eisenhower High School, occasionally referred to as simply "Ike," is a high school located in the Metropolitan Detroit suburb of Shelby Township. It is consistently ranked as the top performing high school in Macomb County. History Opened in 1972, Eisenhower is one of two public high school located in Shelby Township. Until the 1990s, the school had a Washington Township mailing address. As the surrounding area began to develop, the city limits changed and the school fell into Shelby Township boundaries. The original design of the school had few windows and no walls in the individual wings, giving the school an open concept. Westland is a city in Wayne County in the U.S. state of Michigan. It is located about west of downtown Detroit. As of the 2010 census, the city had a total population of 84,094. It is the 10th largest city and 12th largest municipality in Michigan. History Early history During the 18th century, the area was inhabited by the people of a Potawatomi Native American village.
