The by-thirds 2015 Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council election took place on Thursday 7 May 2015, to elect approximately one third of the members of the Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council in England as part of the 2015 United Kingdom local elections held on the same day as the general election. All seats contested at this election were last contested in 2011, and of these, 20 were held by Labour Party councillors. Following the premature resignation of former Cabinet member Cllr. Mahroof Hussain ( L) elected in Boston Castle at a more recent election, his seat (for the Boston Castle ward) was also contested in the 2015 election. As the election is held by thirds, a Labour Party majority would fall if the party failed to win more than 2 of the 22 seats that were up for election in 2015. Election result A total of 67,970 votes were cast. There were 508 spoiled ballots. The turnout was 34.79% The 2014 Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council election took place on 22 May 2014 to elect members of Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council in England. This was on the same day as other local elections. A third of the seats was in play. The Councillors in this class were previously elected during the 2010 Rotherham Council election, in which Labour swept 19 out of 21 wards with 44% of the votes, thanks to the very divided opposition (Conservative, UKIP, BNP as well as Independents). This was the first election since the Rotherham child sexual exploitation scandal broke. Turnout declined to about half of its 2010 figure (down to 34.79%). Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition (TUSC) is a socialist electoral alliance launched in Britain for the 2010 general election. TUSC's co-founder was the RMT union general secretary Bob Crow. Members of the PCS, NUT, FBU and POA unions are on the steering committee. The biggest component section of TUSC was the RMT until they disaffiliated at the 2022 RMT AGM. The most prominent participating political groups are the Socialist Party and the Resistance Movement. Respect Coalition
The Respect Party was a left-wing to far-left, socialist political party active in the United Kingdom between 2004 and 2016. At the height of its success in 2007, the party had one Member of Parliament (MP) in the House of Commons and nineteen councillors in local government. The Respect Party was established in London by Salma Yaqoob and George Monbiot in 2004.
