2015 Portland State Vikings Football Team
The 2015 Portland State Vikings football team represented Portland State University during the 2015 NCAA Division I FCS football season. They were led by head coach Bruce Barnum and played their home games at Providence Park, with one home game at Hillsboro Stadium. They were a member of the Big Sky Conference. They finished the season 9–3, 6–2 in Big Sky play to finish in a tie for second place. They received an at-large bid to the FCS Playoffs where they lost in the second round to Northern Iowa. On October 10, 2015, the Vikings beat North Texas, 66–7. The 59 point margin was the largest margin of victory by an FCS team over an FBS team since the split of NCAA Division I football in 1978 into the groupings now known as FBS and FCS. Bruce Barnum
Bruce Eugene Barnum (born April 13, 1964) is an American football coach who is the current head coach for the Portland State Vikings college football team. Early life and education Born in Vancouver, Washington, Barnum graduated from Columbia River High School in Vancouver in 1982. He then attended Eastern Washington University and participated on the scout team of the Eastern Washington Eagles football team for two seasons. Barnum completed his bachelor's degree in education and history at Eastern Washington University in 1987 and M.Ed. at Western Washington University in 1991. Coaching career Barnum began his coaching career as a high school assistant coach in Washington state, first at Central Valley High School in Spokane Valley in 1986 then with his alma mater Columbia River High School from 1987 to 1988. Denton, Texas
Denton is a city in and the county seat of Denton County, Texas, United States. With a population of 139,869 as of 2020, it is the 27th-most populous city in Texas, the 197th-most populous city in the United States, and the 12th-most populous city in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. Apogee Stadium
Apogee Stadium is a college football stadium located at the junction of Interstate 35 East and West in Denton, Texas. Opened in 2011, it is home to the University of North Texas (UNT) Mean Green football team, which competes in Conference USA. The facility replaced Fouts Field, where the school's football program had been based since 1952. The stadium was proposed by the University of North Texas System Board of Regents after the 2002 New Orleans Bowl. Designed by HKS, Inc., it was constructed at a cost of $78 million after a student body election in 2008. Hillsboro ( ) is the fifth-largest city in the U.S. state of Oregon and is the county seat of Washington County.
