2015 North Korean Local Elections
Elections to provincial (municipal), city (district) and county people's assemblies(도(직할시)·시(구역)·군 인민회의 대의원 선거) were held in North Korea on July 19, 2015. Voter turnout was reported at 99.97%, with 28,452 deputies elected to local people's assemblies. It was reported by North Korean media that Kim Yong-nam voted at the sub constituency No.117 of Constituency No.62 in Pyongyang City, and Choe Ryong-hae voted at sub constituency No.169 in the same constituency Kim Yong-nam voted in. North Korea
North Korea, officially the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), is a country in East Asia. Korean Central News Agency
The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) is the state news agency of North Korea. The agency portrays the views of the North Korean government for both domestic and foreign consumption. It was established on December 5, 1946 and now features online coverage. Organization KCNA is the only news agency in North Korea. It daily reports news for all the news organizations in the country including newspapers, radio and television broadcasts via Korean Central Television and the Korean Central Broadcasting Station within the country. KCNA works under the Korean Central Broadcasting Committee, through which it is ultimately controlled by the Workers' Party of Korea's Propaganda and Agitation Department. Choe Ryong-hae
Choe Ryong-hae (born 15 January 1950) is a North Korean politician and military officer who currently serves as Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Supreme People's Assembly and First Vice President of the State Affairs Commission, holding both positions since April 2019. Due to holding the first office, he was considered the head of state of North Korea before the Constitution of North Korea, country's constitution was amended to transfer this position to the President of the State Affairs Commission, Kim Jong-un. He is also a member of the Presidium of the Politburo of the Workers' Party of Korea, Presidium of the Politburo and Vice Chairman of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK). Kim Chong-t'ae Electric Locomotive Works
The Kim Chong-t'ae Electric Locomotive Works () in P'yŏngyang is North Korea's largest manufacturer of railway equipment. Established in November 1945 in Sŏsŏng-guyŏk, P'yŏngyang near the P'yŏngyang Railway University and the Korean State Railway's West P'yŏngyang Station, the factory manufactures and overhauls electric and diesel locomotives, passenger cars, streetcars and subway trainsets. It is subordinate to the North Korean Ministry of Railways. History Initially established as a repair facility for rolling stock during the Japanese occupation of Korea, becoming the state-owned West P'yŏngyang Railway Factory on 10 November 1945. In 1960, the facility repaired 210 steam locomotives, 1,800 freight cars and 120 passenger cars. Elections In North Korea
Elections in North Korea are held every four-to-five years for the Supreme People's Assembly (SPA), the country's national legislature, and every four years for Local People's Assemblies. All seats are won by the Democratic Front for the Reunification of the Fatherland. The founding and ruling Workers' Party of Korea dominates the Front and holds 87.5% of the seats, with 7.4% for the Korean Social Democratic Party, 3.2% for the Chondoist Chongu Party, and 1.9% for independent deputies. According to official reports, turnout is near 100%, and approval of the Democratic Front's candidates is unanimous or nearly so.
