Niamh Kilkenny is a camogie player, a member of the Galway senior panel that won the All Ireland Senior Camogie Championship in 2013 & 2019 and unsuccessfully contested the All Ireland finals of 2010 and 2011 against Wexford, winner of All Star awards in 2010 and 2011 and a member of the Team of the Championship for 2011. Ashling Thompson
Ashling Thompson is an Irish sportswoman. She plays camogie with her local club, Milford, and with the Cork county team. Her partner is well known Limerick All Ireland Winning Midfielder Darragh O'Donovan Career Thompson began playing camogie for Milford aged 6. With them, she was won three All-Ireland Senior Club Camogie Championships. Ashling has won the All-Ireland camogie championship five times. She helped her team to glory in: 2014, 2015, 2017 and 2018, 2023 Thompson won an All Star Award in 2015 and 2017. She was the subject of a ''Laochra Gael'' episode in 2018. Personal life Thompson's mother was involved in the founding of Milford camogie club. A car accident in 2009 caused severe muscle damage to her neck and back and led to a period of mental illness. Format League structure The 2016 National Camogie League consists of three divisions: 11 in Division 1, 12 in Division 2 and 5 in Division 3; 1 and 2 are divided into two groups. National Camogie League
The National Camogie League, known for sponsorship reasons as the Very Ireland Camogie Leagues, is a competition in the Irish team sport of camogie, played exclusively by women. The competition is held in three divisions graded by ability. It was first played in 1976 for a trophy donated by Allied Irish Banks when Tipperary beat Wexford in a replayed final. Division Two (originally the National Junior League) was inaugurated in 1979 and won by Kildare. The first two National League competitions started in the autumn and finished in the spring of 1976–77 and 1977–78 respectively. Since then the competition has been completed within the calendar year. The 2001 final was not played until October because of the foot-and-mouth disease outbreak earlier in the year.
