Backstroke Swimming
Backstroke or back crawl is one of the four swimming styles used in competitive events regulated by FINA, and the only one of these styles swum on the back. This swimming style has the advantage of easy breathing, but the disadvantage of swimmers not being able to see where they are going. It also has a different start from the other three competition swimming styles. The swimming style is similar to an ''upside down'' front crawl or freestyle. Both backstroke and front crawl are long-axis strokes. In individual medley backstroke is the second style swum; in the medley relay it is the first style swum. Teresa Perales Fernández (born 29 December 1975) is an S5, SB4, SM5 classified Spanish swimmer, politician and motivational speaker who has won a total of 27 Paralympic medals at the 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016 and 2020 Summer Paralympics. She is the most decorated Spanish Paralympian in history. In 1995, at the age of nineteen, Perales was diagnosed with neuropathy and lost the use of her legs within three months. Arjola Trimi (born 15 March 1987) is an Italian Paralympic swimmer competing in S4 classification events. She competed at the 2016 Summer Paralympics, and 2020 Summer Paralympics, in Women's 4 × 50 mixed freestyle relay, winning a silver medal. 2015 IPC Swimming World Championships
The 2015 IPC Swimming World Championships was an international swimming competition for athletes with a disability. It was held in Glasgow, United Kingdom and took place from 13 to 19 July. Around 580 athletes from around 70 countries competed at the games, with Russia topping the tables with most gold medals and medals won. The event was held at the Tollcross International Swimming Centre located within Tollcross Park in Glasgow. Initially awarded as the IPC Swimming European Championships, the event was upgraded to a World Championship after a change to the IPC calendar. This proved to be the final event branded as the "IPC Swimming World Championships". On 30 November 2016, the IPC, which serves as the international federation for 10 disability sports, including swimming, adopted the "World Para" brand for all 10 sports. Ingrid Thunem
Ingrid Thunem (born 17 July 1989) is a Norwegian Paralympic swimmer. She competes in S1, SB1 (breaststroke) and SM1 (individual medley) events, swimming with motor function in just one arm. She is a multiple world record holder in her classification. Personal history Thunem was born in Nordfjordeid, Norway in 1989. She was educated at Eid High School before matriculating to University of Tromsø where she studied pedagogy. In 2010 Thunem contracted a neurological disease that caused paralysis, primarily in her legs for which she required a wheelchair. In 2012 her condition worsened resulting in further paralysis, this time across the whole right-hand side of her body.
