100 Metres
The 100 metres, or 100-meter dash, is a sprint race in track and field competitions. The shortest common outdoor running distance, the dash is one of the most popular and prestigious events in the sport of athletics. It has been contested at the Summer Olympics since 1896 for men and since 1928 for women. The inaugural World Championships were in 1983. The reigning 100 m Olympic or world champion is often named "the fastest man or woman in the world". Fred Kerley and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce are the reigning world champions; Marcell Jacobs and Elaine Thompson-Herah are the men's and women's Olympic champions. On an outdoor 400-metre running track, the 100 m is held on the home straight, with the start usually being set on an extension to make it a straight-line race. Gustavo Henrique Araújo (born 14 September 1992) is a visually impaired Brazilian track and field athlete mainly competing in T13 classification sprint events. . Personal career Araújo was born in Uberlandia, Brazil in 1992. In 2009 he was diagnosed with keratoconus, a degenerative eye condition. Athletics career Araújo enjoyed athletics before his eyesight began to deteriorate and in 2014 took up parasport. He first represented Brazil at a major international at the 2015 Parapan American Games in Toronto. 2015 also saw Araújo enter the 2015 IPC Athletics World Championships in Doha. Fu Xinhan (; born November 27, 1984) is a Paralympian Track and field, athlete from China competing mainly in category T35 sprint and F35 throwing events. Fu Xinhan competed in the 2004 Summer Paralympics in the shot put, he also won silvers in the F35 discus and the long jump for less severely disabled athletes in the F36-38 category. T35 (T for ''track'') is a disability sport classification for disability athletics' running competitions. It includes people who have coordination impairments such as hypertonia, ataxia and athetosis. This includes people with cerebral palsy. The classification is used at the Paralympic Games. Bojan Mitic (born 27 August 1985) is a Paralympian Track and field athlete from Switzerland competing mainly in category T34 sprint events. Personal history Mitic was born in Lucerne in Switzerland in 1985. He was born premature which resulted in cerebral palsy. He is an engineer by trade. Athletics career Mitic first represented Switzerland at the 2004 Summer Paralympics in Athens. He entered three sprint events but did not finish in a podium place. At the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London he finished just outside the medal positions in fourth in both the T34 100m and 200m sprints. T34 is a disability sport classification for disability athletics. The classification is one of eight specifically for athletes with cerebral palsy, and one of four for athletes with cerebral palsy who use a wheelchair. People in this class have hypertonia, ataxia and athetosis. This class includes people who have cerebral palsy, or who have had a stroke or traumatic brain injury. Toby Gold (born 27 September 1994) is an English wheelchair racer. He is classified as a T33 athlete and competes primarily in sprint events, winning the 100m gold in the 2016 European Championships and silver at the 2016 Paralympic Games. Personal history Gold was born in England in 1994. He was educated at Wimbledon College and St Mary's University, Twickenham, both Roman Catholic schools. He studied Sports Science at St Mary's. Athletics career Gold first became involved in athletics after being spotted playing wheelchair basketball in 2011. Daniel Bramall (born 29 January 1985) is a British athlete who competes in T33 racing events. In 2015 Bramall finished in silver medal position in the T33 100m sprint event at the IPC World Championships in Doha. Personal history Bramall was born in 1985 and grew up in Minshull Vernon in the north west of England. Bramall has cerebral palsy which affects his lower limbs. Career history Bramall was introduced to athletics and wheelchair racing by a friend and subsequently joined Stockport Harriers and Athletics Club. In 2012 he was classified as a T33 athlete and took part in his first meets that year. Bramall focused primarily on the sprint events and in his first season recorded a best of 23.59 in the T33 100m. The next season Bramall began posting championship times in his three main events.
