2015 United Kingdom Local Elections
The 2015 United Kingdom local elections were held on Thursday 7 May 2015, the same day as the general election for the House of Commons of the United Kingdom. With the exception of those areas that have had boundary changes, the council seats up for election in England were last contested in the 2011 local elections. Background Elections would have been due in Northern Ireland given the previous elections to all 26 local councils in 2011, but these councils have since been scrapped and replaced by 11 super-councils, which had their inaugural elections in 2014. All registered electors (British, Irish, Commonwealth and European Union citizens) who will be aged 18 or over on the day of the election were entitled to vote in the local elections. Those who will be temporarily away from their ordinary address (for example, away working, on holiday, in student accommodation or in hospital) are also entitled to vote in the local elections, although those who have moved abroad and reg ...

May 2015 Events In The United Kingdom
May is the fifth month of the year in the Julian and Gregorian calendars and is the third of seven months to have a length of 31 days. May is a month of spring in the Northern Hemisphere, and autumn in the Southern Hemisphere. Therefore, May in the Southern Hemisphere is the seasonal equivalent of November in the Northern Hemisphere and vice versa. Late May typically marks the start of the summer vacation season in the United States (Memorial Day) and Canada (Victoria Day) that ends on Labor Day, the first Monday of September. May (in Latin, ''Maius'') was named for the Greek goddess Maia, who was identified with the Roman era goddess of fertility, Bona Dea, whose festival was held in May. Conversely, the Roman poet Ovid provides a second etymology, in which he says that the month of May is named for the ''maiores,'' Latin for "elders," and that the following month (June) is named for the ''iuniores,'' or "young people" (''Fasti VI.88''). Eden, Cumbria, Eden Non-metropolitan district, District Council in Cumbria, England was elected every four years. The council was established in 1974 and abolished in 2023. Political control Since the foundation of the council in 1973 political control of the council has been held by the following parties: Leadership In 2002, following the Local Government Act 2000, the council adopted the "alternative arrangements" style of governance, as was permitted for authorities with under 85,000 residents. Eden's alternative arrangements were said to be unique within England for not having a single nominated leader, but instead having a group of four joint leaders, each of whom chaired one of the council's four main committees. The arrangement lasted for six years. In 2008, the council changed to a Executive arrangements#Leader and cabinet, leader and cabinet model instead, with a single leader.
