2015 1000 Guineas
The 2015 1000 Guineas Stakes was a horse race held at Newmarket Racecourse on Sunday 3 May 2015. It was the 202nd running of the 1000 Guineas. The winner was Susan Magnier, Michael Tabor and Derrick Smith's Legatissimo, a British-bred bay filly trained in County Tipperary, Ireland by David Wachman and ridden by Ryan Moore. Legatissimo's victory was the first in the race for Wachman, the second for Moore and the third for the Magnier/Tabor/Smith partnership. The contenders The race attracted a field of thirteen runners, nine trained in the United Kingdom and four in Ireland: there were no challengers from continental Europe. 1000 Guineas Stakes
The 1000 Guineas Stakes is a Group 1 flat horse race in Great Britain open to three-year-old fillies. It is run on the Rowley Mile at Newmarket over a distance of 1 mile (1,609 metres), and it is scheduled to take place each year in late April or early May on the Sunday following the 2000 Guineas Stakes. It is the second of Britain's five Classic races, and the first of two restricted to fillies. It can also serve as the opening leg of the Fillies' Triple Crown, followed by the Oaks and the St Leger, but the feat of winning all three is rarely attempted. Found (horse)
Found (foaled 13 March 2012) is an Irish Thoroughbred racehorse. Sired by Galileo out of the mare Red Evie, she represents the Coolmore Stud organisation and is trained by Aidan O'Brien. In 2014 she won a strong maiden race on her debut and then finished third in the Moyglare Stud Stakes before winning the Prix Marcel Boussac. She was rated the equal-best two-year-old filly to race in Europe in 2014. In 2015 she finished second in her first three starts (including the Irish 1,000 Guineas and the Coronation Stakes) before winning the Royal Whip Stakes. She then finished second in the Irish Champion Stakes, ninth in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe and second in the Champion Stakes. The Prestige Stakes is a Group 3 flat horse race in Great Britain open to two-year-old fillies. It is run at Goodwood over a distance of 7 furlongs (1,408 metres), and it is scheduled to take place each year in late August. History The event was established in 1974, and it was initially called the Globtik Stakes. It became known as the Waterford Candelabra Stakes in 1975. For a period it was classed at Listed level, and it was promoted to Group 3 status in 1981. It was given its present title in 1989. The Nell Gwyn Stakes is a Group 3 flat horse race in Great Britain open to three-year-old fillies. It is run over a distance of 7 furlongs (1,408 metres) on the Rowley Mile at Newmarket in mid-April. History The event was established in 1961, and it was initially called the Spring Fillies' Stakes. The first running was won by Verbena. The race was renamed the Nell Gwyn Stakes in 1962. It was named after Nell Gwyn (1650–87), a long-time mistress of King Charles II. The Nell Gwyn Stakes can serve as a trial for various fillies' Classics in Europe. The Fred Darling Stakes is a Group 3 flat horse race in Great Britain open to three-year-old fillies. It is run over a distance of 7 furlongs () at Newbury in April. History The event was established in 1949, and it was initially called the Lambourn Stakes. It was named after Lambourn, a nearby village associated with racehorse training. For a period the race was contested over 7 furlongs and 60 yards. It continued with its original name until 1954, and was given its present title in 1955. It is run on the Rowley Mile at Newmarket over a distance of 6 furlongs (1,207 metres), and it is scheduled to take place each year in late September. History The event is named after Cheveley Park, an estate purchased by Harry McCalmont in 1892. It was established in 1899, and the inaugural running was won by Lutetia. Lowther Stakes
The Lowther Stakes is a Group 2 flat horse race in Great Britain open to two-year-old fillies. It is run at York over a distance of 6 furlongs (1,207 metres), and it is scheduled to take place each year in August. History A different event called the Lowther Stakes, a middle-distance race open to horses aged three or older, used to be contested at Newmarket. Its winners included Bay Ronald (1896), Bayardo (1909) and Gay Crusader (1917). The present version is named in memory of Hugh Lowther (1857–1944), the 5th Earl of Lonsdale. It was established in 1946, and the inaugural running was won by Southernwood. The Lowther Stakes is currently held on the second day of York's four-day Ebor Festival meeting. Tiggy Wiggy (foaled 7 March 2012) is an Irish-bred, British-trained Thoroughbred racehorse. In 2014, she won six out of eight races including the Weatherbys Super Sprint, Lowther Stakes and Cheveley Park Stakes and was voted Cartier Champion Two-year-old Filly. Qualify (foaled 22 April 2012) is an Irish Thoroughbred racehorse. On 5 June 2015 she was a 50/1 winner of The Oaks. She ran seven times as a juvenile in 2014, winning a maiden race and the Group Three C. L. Weld Park Stakes but was well-beaten when tried against the best fillies of her generation in the Moyglare Stud Stakes and the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf. In the spring of 2015 she was initially disappointing as she finished unplaced in both the 1000 Guineas and the Irish 1,000 Guineas before being stepped up in distance and winning the Oaks.
