2014–2015 Malaysia Floods
The 2014–2015 Malaysia floods affected Malaysia from 15 December 2014 – 3 January 2015. More than 500,000 people were affected in Malaysia. Kelantan was the highest affected with 354,800 while 21 were killed. These floods have been described as the worst in decades. Affected areas As part of the northeast monsoon, heavy rains since 17 December forced 3,390 people in Kelantan and 4,209 people in Terengganu to flee their homes. Several Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTM) intercity train services along the East Coast route were disrupted on 18 December following the floods. On 20 December, the area of Kajang, Selangor, was also hit by serious floods. By 23 December, most rivers in Kelantan, Pahang, Perak and Terengganu had reached dangerous levels. Due to rising water levels, most businesses were affected and about 60,000 people were evacuated the following day. Kuantan
Kuantan ( Jawi: ) is a city and the state capital of Pahang, Malaysia. It is located near the mouth of the Kuantan River. Kuantan is the 18th largest city in Malaysia based on 2010 population, and the largest city in the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia. Marang (district)
The Marang District is a coastal district in Terengganu, Malaysia. The district seat is the town of Marang. The districts that border Marang are Kuala Terengganu and Kuala Nerus to the north, Hulu Terengganu in the west, while Dungun is in the south. The eastern part of the district is a stretch of coastline facing the South China Sea. Etymology The origin of the district's name is attributed to a Chinese entrepreneur of dried sea products known only by the name of Ma ( 馬, literally horses), who was one of the first settlers in the area. The sea products, consisting of fish and squid, are dried on racks called ''rang'' by the local populace. Besut
Besut is a district in Terengganu, Malaysia. It is bordered by the state of Kelantan to the north and west and the South China Sea to the east. It is the northern gateway to Terengganu. Kampung Raja is the district capital, though Jerteh is more developed. Another major town is the fishing port of Kuala Besut. Hulu Terengganu
Hulu Terengganu (Upper Terengganu) is an interior district of Terengganu, Malaysia. The seat of the district is Kuala Berang, located about from the state capital, Kuala Terengganu. The local government of this district is Hulu Terengganu District Council. Background Hulu Terengganu is the largest district in terms of land area and the only landlocked district in Terengganu. Dungun
Dungun is a coastal district of the Malaysian state of Terengganu. Kuala Dungun is the capital of the district. Dungun is made up of eleven 'mukim', or subdistricts: Abang, Besol, Jengai, Jerangau, Kuala Dungun, Kuala Paka, Kumpal, Pasir Raja, Rasau, Sura, and Hulu Paka. Dungun used to be an iron mining town in the 1940s. Iron ore was mined in a small town inland called Bukit Besi located to the west, while Dungun served as the port where the ore was transferred onto ships.Dungun and Bukit Besi were connected by a railway line that not only served the mining industry but also served as public transportation for inland villagers, the Dungun township and its businesses. Kemaman is a Districts of Malaysia, district in Terengganu, Malaysia. Kemaman District is bordered by Dungun District to the north and the state of Pahang to the south and west. The Rakyat Post (TRP) is a digital media company in Malaysia. It was founded in 2013, but ceased operations as a news portal in 2016. In April 2019, it was relaunched as a non-news media organisation under different ownership and management. Controversy Employers unpaid salaries On 29 February 2016, the news was reported to have cease its operation following the non-payment of employers. On 10 March 2016, the news site reportedly resurfaced. The news site former employees who still did not get the payment of their salaries has made an official statement that they are not related on the "relaunch". In June 2016, The Rakyat Post was acquired for an undisclosed sum by Malay Mail Sdn Bhd. As part of this acquisition, all former employees of The Rakyat Post were awarded a payout in line with Malaysian labor law requirements via the labor court.
