2014–15 WNBL Season
The 2014–15 WNBL season was the 35th season of competition since its establishment in 1981. A total of 8 teams contested the league. The regular season was played between 17 October 2014 and 15 February 2015, followed by a post-season involving the top four on 21 February 2015 until 8 March 2015. Broadcast rights were held by free-to-air network ABC. ABC broadcast one game a week, at 1:00PM at every standard time in Australia. Regular hosts are John Casey & Rachael Sporn. Sponsorship included Wattle Valley, entering its second year as league naming rights sponsor. Spalding provided equipment including the official game ball, with Peak supplying team apparel. Women's National Basketball League
The Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) is the pre-eminent professional women's basketball league in Australia. It is currently composed of eight teams. The league was founded in 1981 and is the women's counterpart to the National Basketball League (NBL). Several WNBL teams have NBL counterparts. The Adelaide Lightning, Melbourne Boomers, Perth Lynx, Southside Flyers and Sydney Uni Flames are the current WNBL teams sharing a market with an NBL team (the Townsville Fire and University of Canberra Capitals shared a market with the Townsville Crocodiles and Canberra Cannons respectively, before both NBL clubs became defunct). Leilani Mitchell
Leilani Seamah Mitchell (born June 15, 1985) is an American-Australian professional basketball player who is currently a free agent. Mitchell was drafted 25th overall by the Phoenix Mercury in the 2008 WNBA draft. A dual citizen of the United States and Australia, she is a member of Australian women's national basketball team (the Opals). In 2019 Mitchell became the first WNBA player to win the Most Improved Player Award twice. Mitchell was a member of the Australian Women's basketball team (Opals) at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Rebecca Cole (basketball)
Rebecca "Bec" Cole (born 19 March 1992) is an Australian professional basketball player. Cole is a starting shooting guard for the Southside Flyers in the WNBL, and has been a member of both the Australian 3x3 national team and the Australian Opals. Early life Cole was born on 19 March 1992 in Mount Waverley, Victoria. She is the daughter of Gary and Ros Cole and has two older sisters, Jessica and Emma. Cole began her career playing for the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) at the age of 16. Penny Taylor
Penelope Jane Taylor (born 24 May 1981) is an Australian retired professional basketball player and assistant coach. During her 19-year career, Taylor spent the most time with the Phoenix Mercury of the WNBA, where she won three championships. She also won the WNBL title with her first club, the Australian Institute of Sport, and played in China, Italy, Turkey and Russia. Suzy Batkovic (born 17 December 1980 in Lambton, New South Wales, Australia) is an Australian professional basketball player and politician. Suzy played her junior basketball with the Port Hunter Basketball Club in Newcastle. Lindsey Moore
Lindsey Moore (born June 3, 1991) is an American professional basketball player, who formerly played for the Minnesota Lynx of the WNBA, Virtus Elite La Spezia of LegA Basket Femminile and the Australian Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) for the West Coast Waves. Moore is a point guard, and played college basketball at the University of Nebraska, where she was an AP All-American. Moore was drafted in the first round by the Lynx, and made the team out of training camp. She is currently a backup guard on the team. Gabrielle Richards (born 19 November 1984) is an Australian professional basketball player. Career WNBL Richards began her WNBL career with the Australian Institute of Sport. She would then return to Victoria and play for the newest franchise, the Bendigo Spirit. Micaela Cocks (born 2 May 1986) is a professional basketball player from New Zealand. She currently plays for the Townsville Fire in the WNBL. Professional career College Cocks played college basketball for the Oregon Ducks in Eugene, Oregon, participating in NCAA Division I.
