2014–15 Romanian Superliga (women's Football)
The 2014–15 season of Romania's top level women's football league was the second under the new name Superliga. The old name Liga I is now being used for the new second-level league. It is the 25th season of top-level football and will decide the Romanian champions and UEFA Women's Champions League participant. Olimpia Cluj were the defending champions and defended their title with a fifth championship title in a row. Romanian Superliga (women's Football)
The Liga I is the top level women's football league in Romania. The champion team qualifies for UEFA Women's Champions League. After the fall of communism, organised women's football started to take off, and the founded clubs were distributed into 2 leagues - ''Divizia A'' with 12 teams and ''Divizia B'' with 30 teams grouped into 3 series, following a tournament called ''Cupa Libertății''. In 2006, the league was rebranded as ''Liga I'' along with its male counterparts, since the name ''Divizia A'' was found to already be trademarked. The top league was renamed ''Superliga'' for 4 seasons between the 2013–14 season, when the league-system was restructured, and until the 2016-17 season. Asociația Sportivă Ardealul 2013 Târgu Mureș, commonly known as ASA Târgu Mureș or simply as Târgu Mureș, was a Romanian professional football club based in Târgu Mureș, Mureș County, which last played in the Liga II. During its short ten-year history, the team managed several notable domestic performances. Originally founded in 2008 as ''FCM Târgu Mureș'', it changed its name five years later to ASA Târgu Mureș. The new acronym and the red and blue equipment were meant to closely resemble the identity of one of the former clubs in the city, which was dissolved in 2005. ASA Târgu Mureș won its first major trophy after defeating FC Steaua București in the 2015 Supercupa României, having earned its place in the competition after coming second in the Liga I championship the previous campaign. 2015–16 Liga I (women's Football)
The 2015–16 Liga I (also known as Liga 1 Orange for sponsorship reasons) was the 98th season of the Liga I, the top professional league for Romanian association football clubs. The season began 10 July 2015 and ended on 29 May 2016, being the first to take place since the play-off/play-out format has been introduced. FC Steaua București were the defending champions for a third consecutive time, but they did not retain the title. Astra Giurgiu became winners for the first time in their history. Teams The last six teams from the 2014–15 season were relegated to their respective 2015–16 Liga II division. Gaz Metan Mediaș, Brașov, Universitatea Cluj, Rapid București, Oțelul Galați and Ceahlăul Piatra Neamț. The first team from each of the two divisions of 2014–15 Liga II advanced to Liga I. 2015–16 UEFA Women's Champions League
The 2015–16 UEFA Women's Champions League was the 15th edition of the European women's club football championship organised by UEFA, and the 7th edition since being rebranded as the UEFA Women's Champions League. The final was played at the Mapei Stadium – Città del Tricolore in Reggio Emilia, Italy on 26 May 2016, two days before the final of the men's tournament played at San Siro, Milan. Lyon defeated Wolfsburg 4–3 on penalties (1–1 after extra time) to win their third European title. Frankfurt were the defending champions, but were eliminated by Wolfsburg in the semi-finals.
