The 2014–15 season of Romania's top level women's football league was the second under the new name Superliga. The old name Liga I is now being used for the new second-level league. It is the 25th season of top-level football and will decide the Romanian champions and UEFA Women's Champions League participant. Olimpia Cluj were the defending champions and defended their title with a fifth championship title in a row. Changes from 2013 to 2014 * The league is again divided into a first stage and then a championship and relegation round. * For the first time club's face relegation, as the bottom two placed clubs are relegated into next season's Liga I. Romanian Superliga (women's Football)
The Liga I is the top level women's football league in Romania. The champion team qualifies for UEFA Women's Champions League. After the fall of communism, organised women's football started to take off, and the founded clubs were distributed into 2 leagues - ''Divizia A'' with 12 teams and ''Divizia B'' with 30 teams grouped into 3 series, following a tournament called ''Cupa Libertății''. In 2006, the league was rebranded as ''Liga I'' along with its male counterparts, since the name ''Divizia A'' was found to already be trademarked. The top league was renamed ''Superliga'' for 4 seasons between the 2013–14 season, when the league-system was restructured, and until the 2016-17 season. Asociația Sportivă Ardealul 2013 Târgu Mureș, commonly known as ASA Târgu Mureș or simply as Târgu Mureș, was a Romanian professional football club based in Târgu Mureș, Mureș County, which last played in the Liga II. The 2015–16 Liga I (also known as Liga 1 Orange for sponsorship reasons) was the 98th season of the Liga I, the top professional league for Romanian association football clubs. The season began 10 July 2015 and ended on 29 May 2016, being the first to take place since the play-off/play-out format has been introduced. FC Steaua București were the defending champions for a third consecutive time, but they did not retain the title. Astra Giurgiu became winners for the first time in their history. Teams The last six teams from the 2014–15 season were relegated to their respective 2015–16 Liga II division. The 2015–16 UEFA Women's Champions League was the 15th edition of the European women's club football championship organised by UEFA, and the 7th edition since being rebranded as the UEFA Women's Champions League. ACS Heniu Prundu Bârgăului, commonly known as Heniu Prundu Bârgăului, or simply Heniu, is a Romanian women's football club based in Prundu Bârgăului, Bistrița-Năsăud County, Romania. The team was founded in 2013 as the women's squad of Heniu Prundu Bârgăului, a club founded in 1938 that includes also a male football team. ''Bârgăuancele'' continuously played in the Liga I, first tier of the Romanian women's football system, after promoting at the end of the 2013–14 season. In the summer of 2022, the team was supposed to be taken over by the CS Gloria 2018 Bistrița-Năsăud club, which had more financial support.
