2014 Vanderbilt Commodores Baseball Team
The 2014 Vanderbilt Commodores baseball team represented Vanderbilt University in the 2014 NCAA Division I baseball season. The team played its home games at Hawkins Field in Nashville, Tennessee. The team was coached by Tim Corbin in his twelfth season at Vanderbilt. The Commodores won the 2014 College World Series, defeating the Virginia Cavaliers 2 games to 1 in the championship series. It was the first NCAA men's championship in school history. Tim Corbin
Timothy Carter Corbin (born August 5, 1961) is the head baseball coach of the Vanderbilt Commodores baseball team. Since becoming coach at Vanderbilt in 2003, Corbin has transformed the Commodores from a perennial Southeastern Conference doormat to an elite program. When he arrived in 2003, Vanderbilt had only had six winning seasons in SEC play since baseball became a scholarship sport in 1968, and had only been to three NCAA Tournaments in school history. Since then, they have been to all but one NCAA Tournament since 2004. On June 25, 2014, he led the team to Vanderbilt's first ever men's NCAA Championship in any sport, winning the College World Series. In his first ten years, Corbin amassed a 411-217 record with the Commodores. His 2013 Commodores team set an SEC record for wins, going 26-3 in conference. Infielder
An infielder is a baseball player stationed at one of four defensive "infield" positions on the baseball field. Standard arrangement of positions In a game of baseball, two teams of nine players take turns playing offensive and defensive roles. Although there are many rules to baseball, in general the team playing offense tries to score runs by batting balls into the field that enable runners to make a complete circuit of the four bases. The 2014 Mississippi State Bulldogs baseball team represents the Mississippi State University in the 2014 NCAA Division I baseball season. The Bulldogs play their home games at Dudy Noble Field. Blair Field
Blair Field is a stadium in Long Beach, California. It originally opened in 1956 and is primarily used for baseball. It holds 3,238 people. It is named for Frank Blair, the sports editor for the ''Long Beach Press-Telegram'' newspaper for 32 years. Travis Jewett
Travis Jewett is an American baseball coach and former player, who is the current hitting coach and recruiting coordinator for the USC Trojans. Jewett played college baseball for Lower Columbia College team while obtaining his associate degree. He completed his education at Washington State University, where he did not play baseball. He then served as the head coach of the Tulane Green Wave (2017–2022). Playing career Jewett played college baseball at Lower Columbia College during the 1990 and 1991 seasons. Coaching career In 1994, Jewett joined the Tacoma Community College coaching staff. The following season he was named the head coach of Tacoma. Bryan Reynolds (baseball)
Bryan Patrick Reynolds (born January 27, 1995) is an American professional baseball outfielder for the Pittsburgh Pirates of Major League Baseball (MLB). Reynolds played college baseball for the Vanderbilt Commodores, and the San Francisco Giants selected him with the 59th pick in the 2016 Major League Baseball draft. The Giants traded him to the Pirates in 2018. He made his MLB debut in 2019 and was an All-Star in 2021. Outfielder
An outfielder is a person playing in one of the three defensive positions in baseball or softball, farthest from the batter. These defenders are the left fielder, the center fielder, and the right fielder. As an outfielder, their duty is to catch fly balls and ground balls then to return them to the infield for the out or before the runner advances, if there are any runners on the bases. As an outfielder, they normally play behind the six players located in the field. By convention, each of the nine defensive positions in baseball is numbered. Alexander McBrayer "Zander" Wiel (born January 11, 1993) is an American professional baseball outfielder and first baseman for the High Point Rockers of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. He was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 12th round of the 2015 Major League Baseball draft.
