2014 VFL Season
The 2014 Victorian Football League season is the 133rd season of the Victorian Football Association/Victorian Football League Australian rules football competition. The premiership was won by the Footscray Bulldogs, the reserves team of the Australian Football League's which was competing in its first season in the VFL, after it defeated Box Hill by 22 points in the Grand Final on 21 September; it was the first senior VFL premiership won by the Footscray reserves team, and it was the tenth senior VFA/VFL premiership won by the Footscray/Western Bulldogs Football Club overall. Footscray Football Club
The Western Bulldogs are a professional Australian rules football team that competes in the Australian Football League (AFL), the sport's premier competition. Founded in 1877 as the Footscray Football Club, and based in West Footscray in the old City of Footscray west of Melbourne, the club won nine premierships in the Victorian Football Association (VFA) before gaining admission to the Victorian Football League (which became the AFL in 1990) in 1925. The club has won two VFL/AFL premierships, in 1954 and 2016 and was runner-up in 1961 and 2021. Much of the club's supporter base comes from Melbourne's traditionally working-class western region. The Williamstown Football Club, nicknamed The Seagulls, is an Australian rules football club based in Melbourne. The club currently competes in the men's and women's Victorian Football League and VFLW competitions. History The Williamstown Football Club was formed in 1864, making it one of the oldest football clubs in Australia. Echuca ( ) is a town on the banks of the Murray River and Campaspe River in Victoria, Australia. The border town of Moama is adjacent on the northern side of the Murray River in New South Wales. Echuca is the administrative centre and largest settlement in the Shire of Campaspe. Richmond Football Club
The Richmond Football Club, nicknamed the Tigers, is an Australian rules football team playing in the Australian Football League (AFL). Between its inception in the Melbourne suburb of Richmond in 1885 and 1907, the club competed in the Victorian Football Association (VFA), winning two premierships. Richmond joined the Victorian Football League (now known as the AFL) in 1908 and has since won 13 premierships, most recently in 2020. The Essendon Football Club, nicknamed the Bombers, is a professional Australian rules football club. The club plays in the Australian Football League (AFL), the game's premier competition. The club was formed by the McCracken family in their Ascot Vale home "Alisa", and while the exact date is unknown, it is generally accepted to have been in 1872. The West Perth Football Club, nicknamed the Falcons, is an Australian rules football club located in Joondalup, Western Australia. West Perth competes in the West Australian Football League (WAFL) and WAFL Women's (WAFLW) and is the oldest existing Australian rules football club in Western Australia. 2014 Foxtel Cup
The 2014 Foxtel Cup was the fourth and final season of the Australian rules football knock-out competition involving clubs from the various state league competitions from around Australia. The Cup's purpose is to support and promote the second-tier Australian rules football competitions and to provide another way of developing lower-tier Australian Football League (AFL) players. The format of the competition was as follows: * Nine teams competed. * With the exception of the pre-qualifying round, matches were played on Tuesday nights as stand alone games and be broadcast by Fox Footy. * The champions received $100,000 in prize money, and the runners-up received $40,000.
