2014 UCI Road World Championships – Women's Road Race
The Women's road race of the 2014 UCI Road World Championships took place in and around Ponferrada, Spain on 27 September 2014. The course of the race was with the start and finish in Ponferrada. Marianne Vos was the defending champion, having won the world title in 2012 and 2013. The world title was won by France's Pauline Ferrand-Prévot in a sprint finish, becoming the first French woman since Jeannie Longo in 1995 to win the women's world title. The silver medal went to Germany's Lisa Brennauer – the world time trial champion – having narrowly been beaten by Ferrand-Prévot in a photo finish, while Emma Johansson of Sweden won the bronze medal. Rainbow Jersey
The rainbow jersey is the distinctive jersey worn by the reigning world champion in a cycling discipline, since 1927. The jersey is predominantly white with five horizontal bands in the UCI colours around the chest. From the bottom up the colours are: green, yellow, black, red and blue; the same colours that appear in the rings on the Olympic flag. The tradition is applied to all disciplines, including road racing, track racing, cyclo-cross, BMX, Trials and the disciplines within mountain biking. A world champion must wear the jersey when competing in the same discipline, category and speciality for which the title was won. For example, the world road race champion would wear the garment while competing in stage races (except for time trial stages) and one-day races, but would not be entitled to wear it during time trials. Ashleigh Moolman Pasio (née Moolman; born 9 December 1985) is a South African professional female road bicycle racer, who currently rides for UCI Women's WorldTeam . She competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in the Women's road race, finishing 16th and in the Women's time trial finishing 24th. On 9 December 2020, she won the first edition of the UCI Cycling Esports World Championships, organised on the online cycling platform Zwift. Belgium at the UCI Road World Championships is an overview of the Belgian results at the UCI Road World Championships. The Belgian competitors are selected by coaches of the Royal Belgian Cycling League. Apart from cycling events at the four-yearly Summer Olympics, the only times that road cyclists appear in proper national selections (instead of in commercial cycling teams) of one or multiple athletes are the yearly UCI Road World Championships. Hsiao Mei-yu
Hsiao Mei-yu (; born 7 January 1985 in Taichung, Taiwan) is a Taiwanese road and track bicycle racer. She participated in the 2006 and 2010 Asian Games. In 2010, she won a gold medal at the women's road race event. In the 2012 Summer Olympics in the Women's road race, she finished over the time limit, and competed in the women's omnium, placing 17th. Hsiao next participated in the 2014 Asian Games and won four medals, including a gold in the women's omnium. In 2016 Hsiao returned to the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro to compete in the Cycling Track Women's Omnium event, where she received 64 points to place 17th, the same placement as at the London Olympics four years earlier.
