2014 Tour Of Belgium
The 2014 Tour of Belgium was the 84th edition of the Tour of Belgium cycling stage race. It took place from 28 May to 1 June 2014 in Belgium, and was a part of the 2014 UCI Europe Tour. Schedule Teams 20 teams were invited to the 2014 Tour of Belgium: 6 UCI ProTeams, 7 UCI Professional Continental Teams and 7 UCI Continental Teams. 2014 UCI Europe Tour
The 2014 UCI Europe Tour was the tenth season of the UCI Europe Tour. The 2014 season began on 2 February 2014 with the Grand Prix d'Ouverture La Marseillaise, Grand Prix Cycliste la Marseillaise and ended on 19 October 2014 with the Chrono des Nations. The points leader, based on the cumulative results of previous races, wears the UCI Europe Tour cycling jersey. Riccardo Zoidl of Austria was the defending champion of the 2013 UCI Europe Tour. The 2014 Europe Tour was won by Tom Van Asbroeck. Throughout the season, points are awarded to the top finishers of stages within stage races and the final general classification standings of each of the stages races and one-day events. The quality and complexity of a race also determines how many points are awarded to the top finishers, the higher the UCI rating of a race, the more points are awarded. History In 1995 Australian Bill Mitchell, a keen cyclist and professor of economics at the University of Newcastle, created the website titled "Bill’s Cycling Racing Results and News" after finding there was a need for fast-breaking news and race results in English-speaking countries. Paul Martens (born 26 October 1983) is a German former professional road bicycle racer, who rode professionally between 2006 and 2021. Career Amateur years Martens started racing junior level events in 2000 showing no particular specialization finishing in the middle of the pack in the Niedersachsen Juniors and Cottbuser Juniors races. In 2001 he started to show some form finishing 3rd in Stage 1 of LVM Saarland Trofeo beating the chasing peloton by 2 seconds. Later in the year he finished 10th overall at the Münsterland Tour Juniors a race he would win the senior version of later in his career. In 2002 he rode the Istrian Spring Trophy finishing 56th overall with his best result coming in the stage 3 sprint where he finished 16th. André Greipel (born 16 July 1982) is a German former professional road bicycle racer, who rode professionally between 2002 and 2021. Since his retirement, Greipel now works as a directeur sportif for UCI Continental team . Born in Rostock, East Germany, Greipel competed as a Cycling sprinter, pure sprinter and took 158 wins during his professional career.
