2014 Summit League Men's Basketball Tournament
The 2014 Summit League Men's Basketball Tournament was the post-season men's basketball tournament for the Summit League, and took place March 8–11, 2014 at the Sioux Falls Arena in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Teams were seeded by conference record, with tiebreakers used when necessary. The champion received an automatic bid to the 2014 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament, 2014 NCAA Tournament. Tiebreaking procedure The following rules define the tiebreaking procedure for the Summit League tournament. If there are multiple ties, the ties shall be broken in descending order. Once a tie is broken using the procedures below, it shall remain broken for purposes of all future comparisons. Tiebreaker procedures are used only to determine seeds for the league tournament. Sioux Falls Arena
Sioux Falls Arena is a 7,500-seat multi-purpose arena located in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The facility was built in 1961. It seats 6,113 for basketball games and 4,760 for indoor football and hockey. It was the home of the Sioux Falls Skyforce basketball team (1989–2013), the Sioux Falls Storm indoor American football, indoor football team, and the Sioux Falls Stampede ice hockey team, as well as a variety of state high school championship events. The Sioux Falls Arena hosted the men's and women's The Summit League, Summit League Basketball Championship from 2009 until the opening of the Denny Sanford Premier Center, Denny Sanford PREMIER Center in 2014. Beginning in the fall of 2014, the Arena has been the home of Augustana (South Dakota) Vikings, Augustana University Vikings men's and women's basketball games. Ratings Percentage Index
The rating percentage index, commonly known as the RPI, is a quantity used to rank sports teams based upon a team's wins and losses and its strength of schedule. It is one of the sports rating systems by which NCAA basketball, baseball, softball, hockey, soccer, lacrosse, and volleyball teams are ranked. This system was in use from 1981 through 2018 to aid in the selecting and seeding of teams appearing in the NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament as well as in the women's tournament from its inception in 1982 through 2020. During the 2018 offseason, the NCAA announced that the RPI would no longer be used in the selection process for the Division I men's basketball tournament. Effective immediately, it was replaced with the NCAA Evaluation Tool (NET). Summit League Men's Basketball Tournament
The Summit League men's basketball tournament is the post-season tournament for NCAA Division I conference Summit League. The winner of the tournament receives the Summit League's automatic bid into the NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Championship. The tournament was first played in 1984, when the league was known as the Association of Mid-Continent Universities (AMCU). The league was also known as the Mid-Continent Conference from 1989 to 2007, after which it was renamed to The Summit League. Format Currently, the top 8 men's basketball teams in the Summit League receive a berth in the conference tournament (barring NCAA sanctions). The 2013–14 Western Illinois Leathernecks men's basketball team represented Western Illinois University during the 2013–14 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Leathernecks, led by sixth year head coach Jim Molinari, played their home games at Western Hall and were members of The Summit League. They finished the season 10–20, 4–10 in The Summit League play to finish in seventh place. They lost in the quarterfinals of The Summit League tournament to South Dakota State. The 2013–14 Fort Wayne Mastodons men's basketball team represented Indiana University – Purdue University Fort Wayne during the 2013–14 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The 2014 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament involved 68 teams playing in a single-elimination tournament to determine the national champion of men's NCAA Division I college basketball. It began on March 18, 2014, and concluded with the UConn Huskies winning the championship game on April 7 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Summit League
The Summit League, or The Summit, is an NCAA Division I intercollegiate athletic conference with its membership mostly located in the Midwestern United States from Illinois on the East of the Mississippi River to the Dakotas and Nebraska on the West, with additional members in the Western United States, Western state of Colorado and the Southern United States, Southern state of Oklahoma. Founded as the Association of Mid-Continent Universities in 1982, it rebranded as the Mid-Continent Conference in 1989, then again as the Summit League on June 1, 2007.
