2014 San Jose Earthquakes Season
The 2014 San Jose Earthquakes season was the club's 17th year of existence, as well as its 17th season in Major League Soccer and its 7th consecutive season in the top-flight of American soccer. Including all previous franchises, it was the 32nd year with a soccer club in the San Jose area sporting the name "Earthquakes". San Jose Earthquakes
The San Jose Earthquakes are an American professional soccer team based in San Jose, California. The Earthquakes compete as a member club of the Western Conference of Major League Soccer (MLS). Originally as the San Jose Clash, the franchise began play in 1996 as one of the charter members of the league. The Earthquakes took part in the first game in MLS history, defeating D.C. United 1–0. The Earthquakes have won two MLS Cup titles (2001, 2003) and two Supporters' Shields (2005, 2012). In 2002, the team played in its first CONCACAF Champions Cup (now called the CONCACAF Champions League), making it to the quarterfinals. The team holds a fierce rivalry with the LA Galaxy known as the ''California Clásico''. Designated Player Rule
The Designated Player Rule, nicknamed the Beckham Rule, allows Major League Soccer franchises to sign up to three players that would be considered outside their salary cap (either by offering the player higher wages or by paying a transfer fee for the player). The rule, which was adopted ahead of the 2007 MLS season, enables teams to compete for star players in the international football market. The rule is one of two mechanisms by which MLS teams may exceed their salary cap, the other being allocation money. As of December 2019, there have been 209 Designated Players in league history. Atiba Harris
Atiba Erasto Harris (born 9 January 1985) is a Kittitian football administrator and former professional footballer. He captained the Saint Kitts and Nevis national team. As of August 2021, he serves as President of the St. Kitts and Nevis Football Association. Career Club Harris played for St. Peters FC as a youngster, captaining them to the SKNFA Premier League Finals, and became the first player from St. Kitts to sign with a Spanish club when he signed in Spain with Cádiz in 2004–05. Steven Lenhart
Steven Lenhart (born August 28, 1986) is a former American soccer player. Career College and amateur Lenhart grew up in Yorba Linda, California, and attended Esperanza High School. He attended Point Loma Nazarene University for one year before transferring to Azusa Pacific University. He tallied 38 goals and 12 assists in his 61 career collegiate games for Azusa Pacific, and was named a NAIA All-American in 2007. He was also named to the NAIA All-Tournament Team in 2006 and 2007, was honored as the NAIA Tournament's Outstanding Offensive Player in 2006 and 2007, and was MVP of the 2007 NAIA Tournament while helping lead Azusa Pacific to the 2007 NAIA national title over Concordia University, Irvine. Billy Schuler
William Jason Schuler (born April 27, 1990) is an American soccer player. Career Youth and college A resident of Allentown, New Jersey, Schuler attended Peddie School. Schuler played three seasons over four years (redshirting his junior year after an injury) at the University of North Carolina. Professional Schuler signed with Hammarby IF of Sweden's Superettan after the 2011 NCAA season. He spent two years in Sweden, scoring two goals for Hammarby in 26 appearances. He signed with Major League Soccer in January 2014 and was assigned to the San Jose Earthquakes by a weighted lottery. Seattle Sounders Football Club is an American professional men's soccer club based in Seattle. The Sounders compete as a member of the Western Conference of Major League Soccer (MLS). Jason Batty
Jason Alfred Batty (born 23 March 1971) is a New Zealand former professional footballer, who played as a goalkeeper, and is the current New Zealand National Team Assistant/Goalkeeping Coach. Batty frequently represented the New Zealand national team in the 1990s. Batty later became the Assistant coach at Dartmouth College in the U.S. and served as the Director of Goalkeeping for Texas Premier SC. Ian Russell (soccer)
Ian Russell (born August 30, 1975) is an American soccer coach and former player. He is currently an assistant coach of MLS club San Jose Earthquakes. Career Russell attended the University of Washington on a soccer scholarship and was a three-time (1994, 1996–97) All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation first team selection. He then played for the Seattle Sounders of the USL First Division in 1998 and 1999. He won the offensive MVP award in 1999. Nick Dasovic
Nick Robert Dasovic (born December 5, 1968) is a Canadian former professional soccer player who played as a midfielder. He began his career with Croatian club HNK Segesta in 1988, followed by short stints at NK Dinamo Zagreb and NK Zagreb. He moved back to his homeland in 1991, playing first for North York Rockets, then the newly formed Montreal Impact in 1993. John Doyle (soccer, Born 1966)
John Joseph Doyle (born March 16, 1966) is an American retired soccer player who played professionally in both Europe and the United States including the Western Soccer League, American Professional Soccer League and Major League Soccer. He was the 1995 A-League Defender of the Year and the 1996 MLS Defender of the Year. He also earned fifty-three caps with the U.S. national team between 1987 and 1994 including two games at the 1990 FIFA World Cup. Sacramento Republic FC is an American professional soccer team based in Sacramento, California, that plays in the Western Conference of the USL Championship, the second level in US soccer.
