2014 Rice Owls Football Team
The 2014 Rice Owls football team represented Rice University in the 2014 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The team was led by eighth-year head coach David Bailiff and played its home games at Rice Stadium. The team was a member of the West Division of Conference USA. They finished the season 8–5, 5–3 in C-USA play to finish in a tie for second place in the West Division. They were invited to the Hawaii Bowl where they defeated Fresno State. David Bailiff
David Edward Bailiff (born May 26, 1958) is an American football coach and former player. He was most recently the head coach at Texas A&M University–Commerce from 2019-2022; prior to that he was the head coach at Rice University in Houston, Texas from 2007 to 2017. During his tenure as head coach, the Rice Owls played in four bowl games, winning 3 of them, and won the 2013 Conference USA football championship. He also coached at his alma mater, Texas State University, where he led the Bobcats to the NCAA Division I-AA National Semifinals in 2005. 2014 Notre Dame Fighting Irish Football Team
The 2014 Notre Dame Fighting Irish football team represented the University of Notre Dame in the 2014 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The team was coached by Brian Kelly and played its home games at Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend, Indiana. They compete as an independent. Two human polls and a committee's selections comprised the 2014 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) football rankings, in addition to various publications' preseason polls. Unlike most sports, college football's governing body, the NCAA, does not bestow a national championship. Various unofficial titles are bestowed by different polling agencies. In gridiron football, a lineman is a player who specializes in play at the line of scrimmage. The linemen of the team currently in possession of the ball are the offensive line, while linemen on the opposing team are the defensive line. Tight End
The tight end (TE) is a position in American football, arena football, and Canadian football, on the offense. The tight end is often a hybrid position with the characteristics and roles of both an offensive lineman and a wide receiver. Like offensive linemen, they are usually lined up on the offensive line and are large enough to be effective blockers. On the other hand, unlike offensive linemen, they are eligible receivers adept enough to warrant a defense's attention when running pass patterns. David Sloan (American Football)
David Lyle Sloan (born June 8, 1972) is an American former professional football player who was a tight end in the National Football League (NFL) for the Detroit Lions and New Orleans Saints. He is currently the tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator for Rice University. Early playing career Sloan initially bypassed football for basketball, enrolling at Fresno City College, a junior college in Fresno, California. He played basketball for the Rams as a freshman and sophomore, earning All-Conference academic honors both years.
