The 2014 Nova Scotia Scotties Tournament of Hearts, the provincial women's curling championship for Nova Scotia, was held January 7 to 12 at the Sydney Curling Club in Sydney. The winning team of Heather Smith represented Nova Scotia at the 2014 Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Montreal. Sydney, Nova Scotia
Sydney is a former city and urban community on the east coast of Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia, Canada within the Cape Breton Regional Municipality. Sydney was founded in 1785 by the British, was incorporated as a city in 1904, and dissolved on 1 August 1995, when it was amalgamated into the regional municipality. Kim Kelly
Kim Kelly (born April 4, 1962 in Halifax, Nova Scotia as Kim Ackles) is a Canadian curler from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. She currently throws skip stones for Colleen Jones, whom she has won five national championships and two world championships. In 2019, Kelly was named the eighth greatest Canadian curler in history in a TSN poll of broadcasters, reporters and top curlers. Kelly had retired from competitive curling in 2006 but returned in 2010 playing third for Nancy Delahunt, failing to secure a spot in the provincial playdowns. She would then go on to join former teammate Mary-Anne Arsenault, playing the second position for the 2011–12 season. For the 2012–2013 season Arsenault and Kelly reunited with former skip Colleen Jones, with the goal of reaching the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. Shelley Barker (born October 14, 1979, in Amherst) is a Canadian curler from Falmouth, Nova Scotia. She currently plays lead on Team Christina Black. Career In 2010, Barker played lead on the Nova Scotia rink skipped by Courtney Smith at the 2010 The Dominion Curling Club Championship. The team qualified for the playoffs through a tiebreaker before losing to Alberta in the semifinals. They rebounded in the bronze medal game by defeating Manitoba for third place. She competed in her second national event at the 2016 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship. Playing lead on the team with skip Doug MacKenzie, Jocelyn Nix and husband Richard Barker, the team just missed the playoffs, finishing fifth overall with a 6–4 record. Jane Snyder Richards (January 31, 1823 – November 17, 1912) was a counselor to Zina D. H. Young in the general presidency of the Relief Society of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) from 1888 to 1901. Early life and family Jane Snyder was born to Isaac Richards Snyder and his wife Lovisa Comstock in Parmelia, Jefferson County, New York. By her early teens her family had moved to Addington County, Upper Canada. While there her parents and siblings joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They were taught about the Church by John E. Page. Jane did not join until January 1840. Passing through a severe illness that had left her paralyzed and speechless, Jane only regained her speech after the prayers of her brother at the age of 17.
