2014 New York Red Bulls Season
The 2014 New York Red Bulls season was the Red Bulls' nineteenth season in Major League Soccer, the top division for soccer in the United States. In 2014, the Red Bulls participated in the CONCACAF Champions League for the second time in team history (the first time being 2010). The team also entered the 2014 MLS season as the reigning Supporters Shield winners. Background The previous season saw the Red Bulls under new leadership with both former general manager Erik Solér and head coach Hans Backe not being given contract extensions and thus relieved from their duties. They were replaced by Jérôme de Bontin, who took over as general manager, Andy Roxburgh as sporting director, and then-assistant coach Mike Petke as new head coach. New York Red Bulls
The New York Red Bulls are an American professional soccer club based in the New York metropolitan area. The Red Bulls compete in Major League Soccer (MLS) as a member of the Eastern Conference. The club was established in October 1994 and began play in the league's inaugural season in 1996 as the New York/New Jersey MetroStars. In 2006, the team was sold to Red Bull GmbH and re-branded as part of the company's global network of soccer clubs, hence its current name. The Red Bulls have played their home matches at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey since 2010, having previously played at Giants Stadium. Jámison Olave
Jámison Olave Mosquera (born April 21, 1981) is a Colombian former footballer who is currently the head coach of USL Championship side Real Monarchs. Career Olave began his career with Deportivo Cali in 2001. He played on loan for a multitude of clubs in his native Colombia, before returning to his first club, Deportivo Cali in 2005. In his first season back with Cali, Olave helped the club capture the 2005 Finalización. While with Cali Olave appeared in 97 league matches and scored two goals. Rafael Márquez Álvarez (; born 13 February 1979) is a Mexican former professional footballer and current head coach of Spanish team Barcelona Atlètic. Designated Player Rule
The Designated Player Rule, nicknamed the Beckham Rule, allows Major League Soccer franchises to sign up to three players that would be considered outside their salary cap (either by offering the player higher wages or by paying a transfer fee for the player). The rule, which was adopted ahead of the 2007 MLS season, enables teams to compete for star players in the international football market. Wilman Fernando Conde Roa, Jr. (born August 29, 1982 in Cali) is a Colombian footballer. Career Professional Conde made his professional debut with Deportes Quindío during the 2000 campaign.
