The 2014 Match des Champions was the 9th edition of the annual super cup game in French basketball. This year the reigning LNB Pro A champions Limoges CSP faced off against French Cup champions JSF Nanterre. The game was played in the Kindarena in Rouen. Limoges Cercle Saint-Pierre, commonly referred to as Limoges CSP or CSP, is a French professional basketball club based in the city of Limoges. History The club was founded in 1929, but its peak was during the 1980s and 1990s, when they became the first French club to win a major European-wide title in a team sport, by winning the FIBA European League (EuroLeague) in 1993. In the 1999–2000 season, Limoges won its 9th top-tier level French League title, but it was relegated to the French second division LNB Pro B, after winning it, because of financial problems. The club didn't get back to its old state for a long time, as it spent the next 3 years in the Pro A, but was relegated again in 2004. Kyle Jordan Weems (born August 23, 1989) is an American professional basketball player for Virtus Bologna of the Lega Basket Serie A (LBA) and the EuroLeague. He played collegiately for Missouri State University and was named Missouri Valley Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Year and an All-American in 2011. College career Weems, a forward from Topeka, Kansas, came to Missouri State in 2007. He redshirted the 2007–08 season and played his freshman season in 2008–09 season. This year the reigning LNB Pro A champions Limoges CSP faced off against French Cup champions SIG Strasbourg. The meeting was also a re-match of the 2014–15 Pro A Finals. The LNB Pro A, currently known for sponsorship reasons as Betclic Élite, is the top-tier men's professional basketball league in France. The competition has existed since 1921. Since 1987, the Ligue Nationale de Basket has governed the league. The bottom two placed teams from each season are relegated to the second tier level Pro B. The winner of the play-offs of the Pro A is crowned the French national champion. Competition format All 16 Pro A League teams play each other twice during the regular season.
