2014 Manitoba Scotties Tournament Of Hearts
The 2014 Manitoba Scotties Tournament of Hearts, the provincial women's curling championship for Manitoba, was held from January 8 to 12 at the Tundra Oil & Gas Place in Virden. The winning Chelsea Carey team went on to represent Manitoba at the 2014 Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Montreal. Virden, Manitoba
Virden is a town in southwestern Manitoba, Canada. Oil was first discovered in 1951, and Virden has since come to be known as the "Oil Capital of Manitoba". History Virden has its roots as a farming community known as Gopher Creek. However, it became a railway tent town in 1882, and grew in population due to the brick and flour industry, as well as with the discovery of oil in the 1950s. The origin of the name, Virden, allegedly arose as a misspelling of the German town Verden in the homeland of the 7th Duke of Manchester's wife, Louisa Cavendish, Duchess of Devonshire. Geography The town is located at the junction of the Trans-Canada Highway (also known as Highway #1) and Highway 83 (the "Palms to Pines" route) and is surrounded by the Rural Municipality of Wallace – Woodworth. Katherine Cameron (born October 22, 1991) is a Canadian curler from New Bothwell, Manitoba. She currently skips her own team out of Winnipeg. Career In 2008 Cameron skipped a team to win the U16 Provincial Championship. The team included Nicole Sigvaldason, Sheyna Andries and Emily Helston. In 2010 Cameron lost the junior provincial final to Breanne Meakin. Cameron 's team included Nicole Sigvaldason, Sheyna Andries and Kelsey Hinds. In 2012 again Cameron lost the junior provincial final to Shannon Birchard. Cameron threw last stones for Team Vandepoele, the team included skip, Alyssa Vandepoele, Abby Ackland and Sheyna Andries. After juniors, Cameron graduated to a women's curling career. She won her first World Curling Tour event as a skip at the 2012 Atkins Curling Supplies Women's Classic. La Salle, Manitoba is a town located in the Rural Municipality of Macdonald along the banks of the La Salle River, about south of downtown Winnipeg. As of the 2016 Canadian Census, 1,589 people make the Town of La Salle, Manitoba their home. History Prior to the CPR's laying rails on or about September 5, 1882, the Roman Catholic Church purchased land to establish the St. Hyacinthe Seminary. This land was on the north shore of the ''Riviere Sale'' (La Salle River). This was where the Ferme du College (College Forum) began, on sections 24-25-8-1-E. It was not until 1897 that Msgr.
