2014 KNSB Dutch Single Distance Championships – Women's 500 M
The women's 500 meter at the 2014 KNSB Dutch Single Distance Championships took place in Heerenveen at the Thialf ice skating rink on Saturday 26 November 2013. Although this edition was held in 2013, it was part of the 2013–2014 speed skating season. There were 22 participants who raced twice over 500m so that all skaters had to start once in the inner lane and once in the outer lane. There was a qualification selection incentive for the next following 2013–14 ISU Speed Skating World Cup tournaments. Title holder was Thijsje Oenema. Thialf
Thialf is an ice arena in Heerenveen, Netherlands. Thialf consists of the Thialf-hal (a 12,500-capacity speed skating venue) and the Elfstedenhal (a 2,500-capacity ice hockey venue). Thialf is used for long track speed skating, short track speed skating, ice hockey, figure skating, ice speedway, and non-sporting events. The outdoor rink was opened in 1967, and the indoor stadium was opened in 1986. Several world records have been set in the indoor stadium. Annually, Thialf hosts two Speed Skating World Cup events. Jan de Jong was the ice rink master at Thialf for many years. History Thialf is named after Thialfi, a character in Norse mythology, who was Thor's servant and had to race a giant. Construction on the artificial outdoor ice rink was started in 1966, and it was opened on 14 October 1967 by Princess Christina of the Netherlands. Bo van der Werff (born 24 August 1992 in Eelde) is a Dutch long track speed skater Long-track speed skating, usually simply referred to as speed skating, is the Olympic discipline of speed skating where competitors are timed while crossing a set distance. It is also a sport for leisure. Sports such as ice skating marathon, ..., who prefers short and middle distances. She won a gold medal in the 1000 meters at the Dutch Junior speed skating championship in 2010. In the 2011–2012 season, she was contracted to the speed skating team Team Anker. She later joined the iSkate Development Team.
