Breaststroke Swimming
Breaststroke is a swimming style in which the swimmer is on their chest and the torso does not rotate. It is the most popular recreational style due to the swimmer's head being out of the water a large portion of the time, and that it can be swum comfortably at slow speeds. In most swimming classes, beginners learn either the breaststroke or the freestyle (front crawl) first. However, at the competitive level, swimming breaststroke at speed requires endurance and strength comparable to other strokes. Some people refer to breaststroke as the "frog" stroke, as the arms and legs move somewhat like a frog swimming in the water. The stroke itself is the slowest of any competitive strokes and is thought to be the oldest of all swimming strokes. Olesya Yuriyevna Vladykina (russian: Оле́ся Ю́рьевна Влады́кина, born 14 February 1988) is a Paralympic swimmer from Russia competing mainly in category SB8 events. Deborah Font Jiménez (born 6 September 1985 in El Vendrell, Tarragona) is a swimmer from Spain. Personal Font was born 6 September 1985 in El Vendrell, Tarragona. She is blind. She found a job with assistance from the Employment HPOD PROAD Program, which is supported by ONCE. In December 2013, she attended an event marking Spanish insurance company Santa Lucía Seguros becoming a sponsor of the Spanish Paralympic Committee, and consequently Plan ADOP which funds high performance Spanish disability sport competitors. She chose to attend the event because she wanted to show support for this type of sponsorship. Swimming Font is an B2/S12 classification swimmer. When swimming, she has a "tapper" who taps her so she knows when she has to initiate a turn in the water. Elena Krawzow (born 26 October 1993) is a blind German Paralympic swimmer who specializes in breaststroke and freestyle. She has macular degeneration, leaving her with only 3% vision. Early life and career Born in Mergen, a village in southern Kazakhstan, Elena Krawzow emigrated with her German-Kazakhstani family, moving to Russia, where she was diagnosed with macular degeneration. Whilst in Russia, Krawzow attend a boarding school for disabled children, before resettling in Germany aged 11. Krawzow won a silver medal in the 100m breaststroke - SB13 at the 2012 London Paralympics before finishing fifth in the same event at Rio 2016.; she went on to win the gold medal in the same category at Tokyo 2020. Carla Casals Solé (born 6 February 1987) is a Paralympic swimmer from Spain. Personal Casals is from the Catalan region of Spain. Living at the High Performance Centre (CAR) of San Cugat del Vallés in 2013, she shared a room with an Olympic athlete. Swimming Casals is an S12 classified swimmer. She is affiliated with the Spanish Federation of Sports for the Blind (FEDC). In 2007, Casals competed at the IDM German Open. Casals won a gold medal at the 2009 IPC European Swimming Championships. She was one of 42 Spanish team members, of which 22 had physical disabilities, 6 had cerebral palsy, 10 were blind and four had intellectual disabilities. Karolina Pelendritou (born 25 August 1986 in Limassol) is a visually impaired swimmer from Cyprus. She has won gold medals and broken records in national and international games as well as winning three gold medals, a silver and two bronze over four Paralympic Games (winning medals in each Games except for 2016 when she came in 4th). Maja Reichard (born 27 May 1991) is a Swedish swimmer. She has a visual impairment caused by retinitis pigmentosa and competes in the S11 disability class. She's the reigning paralympic champion in 100 m breaststroke. Reichard won a gold medal at the 2010 IPC Swimming World Championships in the 100 m breaststroke.
