Long Jump
The long jump is a track and field event in which athletes combine speed, strength and agility in an attempt to leap as far as possible from a takeoff point. Along with the triple jump, the two events that measure jumping for distance as a group are referred to as the "horizontal jumps". This event has a history in the ancient Olympic Games and has been a modern Olympic event for men since the first Olympics in 1896 and for women since 1948. Rules At the elite level, competitors run down a runway (usually coated with the same rubberized surface as running tracks, crumb rubber or vulcanized rubber, known generally as an all-weather track) and jump as far as they can from a wooden or synthetic board, 20 centimetres or 8 inches wide, that is built flush with the runway, into a pit filled with soft damp sand. World records in disability athletics are ratified by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC). In Paralympic athletics competitions, athletes are given a class depending on the type and extent of their disability. Nikol Rodomakina
Nikol Rodomakina (Russian: Николь Родомакина, born 14 February 1993) is a Paralympic athlete from Russia competing mainly in category T46 sprint and F46 long jump events. Between 2011 and 2013 Rodomakina was World, Paralympic and European champion in the F46 long jump. Career history Rodomakina competed in her first Summer Paralympics at the 2008 Games in Beijing, China. She entered both the women's 100 metres and 200 metres sprints in the T46 classification. She qualified for the finals for both events, but failed to medal in either finishing 5th in the 100m and 7th in the 200m. In 2011 Rodomakina entered the 2011 IPC Athletics World Championships in Christchurch, New Zealand. She took the silver in both her sprint events, the 100m and 200m T46 races. She also qualified for the F44/46 long jump and took the gold medal after posting a distance of 5.67m in her final jump. Iris Pruysen
Iris Pruysen (born 26 November 1987) is a Dutch retired Paralympic athlete who competed in sprinting and long jump at international elite competitions. She is a World champion and a European bronze medalist in long jump. Pruysen lost her lower right leg following a gas explosion on a boat at a sailing camp in IJsselmeer. Stefanie McLeod Reid (born 26 October 1984) is a track and field paralympian who competes for Great Britain, competing mainly in category T44 long jump and sprint events. A multiple medal winner at European and world level, she won a bronze medal in the 200m at the 2008 Summer Paralympics and silver in the long jump at the 2012 Summer Paralympics. Reid was also a semi-finalist on ''Celebrity MasterChef'' in 2018 and was a quarter-finalist on the fourteenth series of ''Dancing on Ice''. Personal history Reid was born in New Zealand to British parents; her father is Scottish and her mother is English. The family moved to Toronto, Ontario, Canada when she was aged 4. Reid lost her right foot in a boating accident, aged 16. Her life was saved by a surgeon in Toronto who amputated her right leg below the knee. Martina Caironi (born 13 September 1989) is an Italian Paralympic athlete. She competed at the 2012 Summer Paralympics and 2016 Summer Paralympics. She won a gold medal in the 100 m sprint in 2012 and a silver in the long jump in 2016. She qualified for the 2020 Summer Paralympics. Biography As a result of a motorcycle accident in 2007, Caironi had to undergo high- femoral amputation on her left leg. Disqualification On 17 October 2019, she was disqualified for having been found positive for a steroid contained in a healing ointment, prescribed by her doctor, to treat a severe inflammation of the amputated leg. However, the ''Italian national anti-doping court'', recognizing the good faith of the athlete, reduced the disqualification by one year, therefore the disqualification expired on 9 March 2020. Vanessa Low
Vanessa Low (born 17 July 1990) is a German-born Australian Paralympic athlete competing in T42 sprint and long jump events. Born in East Germany, she gained Australian nationality in June 2017. In 2016, Low was the only actively competing female track athlete with two above-knee amputations of her legs. Despite the location of these amputations and despite her having to compete with athletes having one fully functional leg, she successfully made it to the finals of all of her sprint and long jump competitions at both the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London and the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio. In Rio she won the gold medal with a 4.93m world record distance in the T42 long jump and a silver medal in the T42 100m competition.
