2014 Formula Renault 2.0 NEC Season
The 2014 Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup was the ninth Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup season, an open-wheel motor racing series for emerging young racing drivers based in Europe. It was contested over 7 race meetings and a total of 15 races – 17 scheduled races, with 2 cancelled due to weather conditions – commencing on 12 April at Monza and concluding on 20 September at the Nürburgring. The championship title was won by British driver Ben Barnicoat, a member of McLaren's young driver programme, after recording top-ten finishes in all but two of the season's races. Barnicoat, who won races at Hockenheim and Most, finished 16 points clear of his closest rival, Louis Delétraz, who was the winner of the opening race of the season, at Monza. Ben Barnicoat (born 20 December 1996) is a British racing driver who currently serves as a McLaren factory racing driver, while also competing in the 2022 FIA World Endurance Championship for Project 1 Motorsport. He has previously raced in the 2020 FIA Formula 3 Championship, and was a part of the McLaren young driver programme from 2010 to 2015. Career Karting Born in Chesterfield, Barnicoat began his racing career in karting at the age of nine. In 2007 he clinched the WTP Cadet Open and Motors TV Cadet Karting Championship titles as well as becoming WTP "Little Green Man" Vice Champion. He currently competes in the IMSA SportsCar Championship for G-Drive Racing by APR and has previously competed in the European Le Mans Series. Robert Siska (born December 1, 1942) is an American former tennis player and motorsport driver. A left-handed player from San Francisco, Siska made the singles third round of the 1959 U.S. National Championships as a teenager and competed on the international tour through the 1960s. He featured in the Wimbledon singles main draw four times and won his first round match in 1963, over Ion Țiriac. At the tournament now known as the Cincinnati Masters, he reached the round of 16 in singles in 1965. Siska, who worked in real estate, financed his own career in motor racing after tennis.
