2014 FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship Qualification
The 2014 FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship featured 24 teams. One place was allocated to the hosts, Poland, but no automatic place is given to the defending champions, Brazil. The remaining 23 places were determined by a qualification process, in which entrants from among the other teams from the five FIVB confederations competed. 2014 FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship
The 2014 FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship was held in Poland from 30 August to 21 September 2014. The tournament featured 24 teams to determine the world champions in men's volleyball. In addition to the host nation Poland, 23 teams qualified for the tournament by means of continental and regional competitions. The matches took place in seven venues across seven Polish cities, with the final being held at Spodek, Katowice. The tournament was won by the host country Poland, who beat Brazil (who won the previous three titles) in the final. Poland became the third team in the history of the competition to be crowned as champions in their own country, joining the Soviet Union (1952 and 1962) and Czechoslovakia (1966). 563,263 fans watched the matches during the 18-day event, smashing the previous records in the competition. The Soviet Union men's national volleyball team was the national volleyball team that had represented the Soviet Union in the International competitions between 1948 until 1991. FIVB considers Russia as the inheritor of the records of Soviet Union (1948–1991) and CIS (1992). The Confederación Sudamericana de Voleibol (CSV) (Portuguese: ) is the continental governing body for the sports of volleyball in South America. Its headquarters is located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The African Volleyball Confederation (French: ''Confédération Africaine de Volleyball'', or CAVB) is the continental governing body for the sports of volleyball in Africa. Its headquarters are located in Rabat, Morocco. Serbia And Montenegro Men's National Volleyball Team
The Serbia men's national volleyball team is the national team of Serbia. FIVB and CEV considers Serbia the inheritor of the records of SFR Yugoslavia (1948–1991) and Serbia and Montenegro (1992–2006). Serbia won gold at the Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia and bronze at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. West Germany Men's National Volleyball Team
The Germany men's national volleyball team represents Germany in international volleyball competitions. It is governed by the German Volleyball Association. Germany won the gold medal at the 1970 World Championship as East Germany and the bronze medal at the 2014 World Championship. After German reunification, West Germany (1949–1990) was renamed Germany and they absorbed East Germany (1949–1990) with the records. Since 1992 they have appeared at the Olympic Games on two occasions, finishing with a ninth place at Beijing 2008 and a fifth place at London 2012. The NORCECA qualification for the 2014 FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship saw member nations compete for five places at the finals in Poland. Draw 39 of the 41 NORCECA national teams entered qualification. The CAVB qualification for the 2014 FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship saw member nations compete for three places at the finals in Poland. Draw 44 CAVB national teams entered qualification (11 teams later withdrew).
