2014 European Athletics Championships
The 2014 European Athletics Championships was held in Zürich, Switzerland, between 12 and 17 August 2014. It was the first time that Switzerland had hosted the European Athletics Championships since 1954. Great Britain headed the medal table, with 12 gold medals, comfortably their best return from a European championships, despite winning only one field event medal. Aleksandr Aleksandrovich Menkov (russian: Александр Александрович Меньков, born 7 December 1990 in Minusinsk, Krasnoyarsk Krai) is a Russian athlete who competes in the long jump. Ignisious Gaisah (born July 20, 1983) is a Ghanaian-born athlete competing in the long jump for the Netherlands. Career Gaisah moved to the Netherlands in 2001 and currently lives and trains in Rotterdam. He competes for P.A.C. Rotterdam. In 2005 jumped a personal best 8.34 metres to win the silver medal at the World Championships in Helsinki, finishing behind Dwight Phillips. On February 2, 2006, in Stockholm he leaped to an African indoor record that also won him the gold medal in this event by jumping 8.36 metres. He continued his good form to win the 2006 IAAF World Indoor Championships a month later with a jump of 8.30 metres, followed quickly by the 2006 Commonwealth Games gold medal with a jump of 8.20 metres. JJ Jegede (born 3 October 1985) is a British track and field athlete who specialises in the long jump. He finished fourth in the long jump at the 2012 European Athletics Championships, just seven centimetres off a medal. He works as a personal trainer and as mentor for young people. He was not selected for the British team for the 2012 Olympics, as he did not have the "A" standard of 8.20m. He competed at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games and European Championships in Zurich, making the final in both. Early life Jegede grew up in Hackney as the youngest of four children. Christopher George Tomlinson (born 15 September 1981) is a retired English long jumper. He is the former British long jump record holder and competed at the Olympics of 2004, 2008 and 2012. Career Born in Middlesbrough, Tomlinson began competing for Middlesbrough AC (formerly Mandale Harriers) at the age of 10, mostly over 100m and 200m. He attended Nunthorpe Secondary School, where he still holds many of its year group records for triple and long jump, before attending Prior Pursglove College in Guisborough. In his early teens Chris decided to concentrate on long jump. His major breakthrough came in 2002 when, just three months after breaking both wrists in a freak weight-training accident, he jumped 8.27 m to break the British record that had been held by Lynn Davies for 34 years. Eusebio Cáceres López (born 10 September 1991 in Onil) is a Spanish track and field athlete who specialises in the long jump. Career He began competing in a wide variety of events at the start of his junior career, including the decathlon. He won the long jump bronze medal at the 2008 World Junior Championships in Athletics.
