2014 Calder Cup Playoffs
The 2014 Calder Cup playoffs of the American Hockey League began on April 23, 2014, with the same playoff format that was introduced in 2012. The sixteen teams that qualified, eight from each conference, will play best-of-five series in the conference quarterfinals, with the playoffs to continue with best-of-seven series for the conference semi-finals, conference finals, and Calder Cup finals. The Texas Stars defeated the St. John's IceCaps in five games to win the Calder Cup for the first time in Texas Stars' franchise history. Texas Stars
The Texas Stars are a professional ice hockey team in the American Hockey League (AHL) based in Cedar Park, Texas, near Austin, with home games at the H-E-B Center. They are owned by the National Hockey League's (NHL) Dallas Stars and are the team's top developmental affiliate. History In April 2008, the Iowa Stars announced that they would no longer affiliate with the Dallas Stars and changed the team's name to Chops for the 2008–09 season. Grand Rapids Griffins
The Grand Rapids Griffins are a professional ice hockey, hockey team in the American Hockey League (AHL) based in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and play home games at Van Andel Arena. They are the AHL affiliate to the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League and are the 2013 Calder Cup playoffs, 2013 and 2017 Calder Cup playoffs, 2017 Calder Cup champions. Dave Steckel
David Steckel (born March 15, 1982) is an American former professional ice hockey center. He played in the National Hockey League for the Washington Capitals, the New Jersey Devils, Toronto Maple Leafs and Anaheim Ducks, before finishing his hockey career with the Thomas Sabo Ice Tigers of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL). He was known for his faceoff proficiency during his career. Playing career Steckel was drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in the first round, 30th overall, in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. Max Friberg
Max Friberg (born November 20, 1992) is a Swedish professional ice hockey winger who is currently playing under contract to Frölunda HC of the Swedish Hockey League (SHL). Friberg was drafted by the Anaheim Ducks in the fifth round, 143rd overall, of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. Playing career Friberg played as a junior and in the lower divisions in his native Sweden with Skövde IK. To continue his development, Friberg moved to Timrå IK of the then Elitserien. Nicholas Dowd (born May 27, 1990) is an American professional ice hockey forward for the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was selected by the Los Angeles Kings in the 7th round (198th overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. Zachary O'Brien (born June 29, 1992) is a Canadian professional ice hockey winger currently playing for HC Slovan Bratislava of the Slovak Extraliga. Sean Backman (born April 29, 1986) is an American former professional ice hockey player. He most notably played in the American Hockey League (AHL) and with Eisbären Berlin of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL). Norfolk Scope
Norfolk Scope is a multi-function complex in Norfolk, Virginia, comprising an 11,000-person arena, a 2,500-person theater known as Chrysler Hall, a exhibition hall and a 600-car parking garage. The arena was designed by Italian architect/engineer Pier Luigi Nervi in conjunction with the (now defunct) local firm Williams and Tazewell, which designed the entire complex. The SNHU Arena (Southern New Hampshire University Arena) is an indoor events arena in Manchester, New Hampshire, and seats 9,852 for ice hockey, 11,140 for basketball and up to 11,770 for concerts. The facility was originally known during construction as Manchester Civic Arena, and this name still appears on most of the directional signs around town. Its naming rights were sold prior to opening in 2001 and was called Verizon Wireless Arena. On February 2, 2016, Southern New Hampshire University announced that it had purchased the naming rights from the then SMG (property management).
