2014 CIS Women's Volleyball Championship
The 2014 CIS Women's Volleyball Championship was held from February 28, 2014 to March 2, 2014, in Regina, Saskatchewan, to determine a national champion for the 2013–14 CIS women's volleyball season. The tournament was played at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport (CKHS) at the University of Regina. It was the first time that the University of Regina had hosted the tournament. The second-seeded Manitoba Bisons defeated the six-time defending champion and top-seeded UBC Thunderbirds in the gold-medal match as they won the seventh title in program history. The Bisons swept all three of their opponents during this tournament and won their first championship since 2002. The loss frustrated the Thunderbirds' attempt to win a record-breaking seventh consecutive championship as they finished tied with the Winnipeg Wesmen (1983-1988) and Alberta Pandas (1995-2000) with six straight wins from 2008 to 2013. U Sports Women's Volleyball
U Sports women's volleyball is the highest level of amateur play of indoor volleyball in Canada and operates under the auspices of U Sports (formerly Canadian Interuniversity Sport). 41 teams from Canadian universities are divided into four athletic conferences, drawing from the four regional associations of U Sports: Canada West Universities Athletic Association (CW), Ontario University Athletics (OUA), Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec (RSEQ), and Atlantic University Sport (AUS). Following intra-conference playoffs, eight teams are selected to play in a national tournament to compete for the U Sports women's volleyball championship. Trinity Western Spartans
The Trinity Western Spartans are the athletic teams that represent Trinity Western University in Langley, British Columbia. The university's teams are members of U Sports, and compete in the Canada West Universities Athletics Association, and where applicable, in the Pacific division. Taylor Pischke
Taylor Mackenzie Pischke (born April 18, 1993) is a Canadian professional volleyball player. She has won seven Canadian national titles (four indoor volleyball and three beach volleyball), including the CIS women's volleyball championship in 2014. Personal life Pischke was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, the daughter of Garth Pischke, a two-time Olympian with Canada men's national volleyball team, and a former coach of the Manitoba Bisons men's team, and mother Cindy Shepherd, a Canadian Junior National team athlete and three-time U Sports National Champion. Pischke first competed in rhythmic gymnastics at the national level before taking up her parents' sport at the age of 14. She attended high school at Fort Richmond Collegiate. The Ottawa Gee-Gees are the athletic teams that represent the University of Ottawa in Ottawa, Ontario. The Gee-Gees won the national football championship, the Vanier Cup, in 1975 and 2000, while also appearing in the game in the 1970, 1980, and 1997 seasons. The McMaster Marauders are the athletic teams that represent McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.
