The 2013–14 season of Romania's top level women's football league was the first under the new name Superliga. The old name Liga I is now being used for the new second-level league. It is the 24th season of top-level football and will decide the Romanian champions and UEFA Women's Champions League participant. Olimpia Cluj were the defending champions and defended their title with a fourth championship title in a row. Alexandra Lunca won the top scorer award with 31 goals. Changes from 2012 to 2013 * Eight instead of 18 teams play in the league. All teams play in a single division. * The league is again divided into a first stage and then a championship and relegation round. * For the first time club's face relegation, as the bottom two placed clubs are relegated into next season's Liga I. The Liga I is the top level women's football league in Romania. The champion team qualifies for UEFA Women's Champions League. After the fall of communism, organised women's football started to take off, and the founded clubs were distributed into 2 leagues - ''Divizia A'' with 12 teams and ''Divizia B'' with 30 teams grouped into 3 series, following a tournament called ''Cupa Libertății''. In 2006, the league was rebranded as ''Liga I'' along with its male counterparts, since the name ''Divizia A'' was found to already be trademarked. The top league was renamed ''Superliga'' for 4 seasons between the 2013–14 season, when the league-system was restructured, and until the 2016-17 season. Asociația Clubul Sportiv Fotbal Feminin Baia Mare is a Romanian women's Association football, football club based in Baia Mare, Maramureș County, Romania. The Ladies of the river are currently playing in the Liga II (women's football), Liga II, of the Romanian women's football system. History Originally founded in 2009 as a female section of Asociația Sportivă Independența Baia Mare, a club founded itself in 2000, it was commonly known as Independența Baia Mare, or simply Independența until 2020. The team first affiliated to Romanian Football Federation only on 8 August 2011, since then playing constantly in the Romanian leagues.
